Hello.. we are looking to plan a trip for December 2007 and I was looking into renting points from a DVC member. I looked up how many points I need, 140 for a studio at WLV or 266 for a one bedroom at WLV. My question is how early should I start looking to rent points? Also at the time we visit in 2007 it will be my husband, 3 year old daughter and our new baby that is on the way who will be about 9 months and myself. Is a studio going to be big enough? Also we are interested in getting the dinning plan, does the DVC member reserve the plan for us or how does that work? Any advice and help would be so much appreciated.

Thanks

I would start about 12-13 months out from your arrival. VWL is a small resort and December is the busiest time of the year for DVC, so you are going to want a VWL owner to make ressies for you at the 11 month window (i.e. January 2007). You will need your dates firmly set before the ressies are made, because it will be difficult, if not impossible, to change them. Or at least change them at VWL, due to limited availability.

A studio will be a little bigger than a regular hotel room and will have a small refrigerator and kitchenette. With kids that age, I'd say whether you go for a one-bedroom would depend on how you plan to use the room. If you plan to cook, then obviously a one-bedroom would be preferable, and it does have more space...however, it's almost twice as much money. The sleeping arrangements in a studio will be fine -- you'll have a regular bed, a sofa-bed, and a Pack 'N Play for the baby.
Also we are interested in getting the dinning plan, does the DVC member reserve the plan for us or how does that work?
Once your reservation is set, you should receive a copy of the confirmation or the confirmation number and should be able to independently verify the ressie, which will be in your name. Once you have that, you can make the DP arrangements (assuming DP is available in '07) and also DME arrangements. You will not be able to change anything regarding the ressie itself (dates, accommodations, etc.). The owner can also do those things for you, but it's much simplier and much more accurate doing them yourself.

I totally agree with that advice! VWL is the smallest DVC on site, and that is the most popular time for members to stay there. Booking day by day may be necessary depending on your dates.

Thank you so much for the responses. I was wondering if I switched to a studio at OKW, since those studios seem to be the largest, how early I would need to rent points for that resort. I am fine renting as early as January, if some one is willing to rent them out. Also if anyone has a link to how to rent DVC points, since this would be my first time, and I am searching for it, I would highly appreciate it.

Thanks again

The difference in unit size at OKW for a studio isn't that much different from the other resort studios. If you are ready to rent 11 months in advance, then you should. That way you'll be sure to get what you want.

Take a look at the Rent/Trade Board for info on how to rent. Here's a Link. The third sticky down is a good list of FAQ's.
