Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your info (I just discovered this site and love it).
We found a house in Indian Creek through VRBO for November and so far it has been a positive experience. We're dealing directly with the owner and he's been a gem.
I'd like to try to reconfirm some of what I've read about Indian Creek; please help me! Is it indeed one of the closest communities and how is it as far as developments go? Can you see fireworks from the parks from here? What can you tell me about this shortcut via Sherbreth (sp?) Rd?
Anything else I need to know?
Looking forward to your input!

Hi karenvicki

I Creek is one of the closest developments to Disney. It is opposite Rolling Hills and just up from Formosa Gardens.

The community is still being built so I would check you are not next to any building work but otherwise you should have a great time.

As far as fireworks are concerned, I used to live on Sunset Lakes and occassionally we could see fireworks from there. Things is they were never Disney fireworks so I am somewhat sceptical if anyone claims they can see Disney fireworks from I Creek.

As far as the shortcut is concerned.....that would be telling ;) Seriously though, you can be at Animal Kingdom in about 3 mins if you use the shortcut. Difficult to explain here but when you check in, get someone to show it to you on a map.

Have fun.

FLeisure: Thank you for your reply. Since I'm not checking in with anyone (we should have everything we need to get into our house when we arrive) I'll just have to check Mapquest I guess...
Since you're a local, maybe you can recommend some restaurants close by that are kid friendly and can accommodate a party of 8 (we'll be 2 families traveling together). We'll be doing most dinners at the house but if we don't want to cook for a night or 2, I want to have some options!

Thanks,
karen

To get to the shortcut.....turn right on US 192 coming out of ICreek and at the first set of traffic lights turn left (just past McDonalds). This will take you into Disney via the back road.

Restaurants.....here's my web site link for restaurants

I need to update this section as there are many other good places such as Outback, Red Lobster, China 1 all in the Formosa Gardens shopping center just 2 mins from I Creek. All suggestions welcomed !

We just got back from an eight night stay at our first home rental. We were in Sunset Lakes and the house was wonderful. It was so great to come back and jump in our own private pool after tromping around the parks all day. Our house was next to a conservation area and we saw a Bald Eagle one evening. He flew right over the pool enclosure and landed in a tree and then he glided down to the lake behind our house and grabbed a fish. It was awesome.

We ate at the Outback restaurant at the Formosa Garden Center and it was sooooo good and the service was great.

I hope you have as good a vacation as we had.

Susie Jane: Thanks for your reply! As excited as I am about WDW I'm just as excited about the house. We got a steal of a rate and made sure our house not only had a pool (as they all do) but a jacuzzi as well so we could soak our sore feet at night with a glass of wine!
Although Outback sounds fine (and is obviously closeby) I was hoping for some more local places which - even if they were chains, were local chains. I've got an Outback 10 miles from my house!
Hoping that the Jersey Week crowds don't overrun the place during our stay but otherwise very much looking forward to seeing WDW through my kids' eyes as it's their very first visit!

SusieJane,
I'd be very interested to hear your views on Sunset Lakes as a community. I'll tell you why afterwards. :)

Hi FLeisure,

My first thought on entering Sunset Lakes was how quiet it was. There didn't seem to be many people around, but those we did see always waved or spoke. The properties all appeared to be well maintained and the landscaping was very attractive with a wide variety of plants and flowers and palms. I liked the fact that it is a gated community and from what I could see, it seemed like all the houses were backed by a lake. There were plenty of shops and restaurants close by. All things considered, I really liked Sunset Lakes, I loved the house we stayed in and I hated to leave. I would definately stay at Sunset Lakes again and rent through Florida Leisure.

Hi !
Thanks for that. Since October last year a new HOA Board was elected and the first job they set about tackling was the decay that had been left by the developer of the estate.

A year ago there were several negative comments in regard to the community and I am very interested to hear all opinions - I'm the President of the HOA !! Told you I'd tell you why afterwards !!

Many things are planned for Sunset Lakes in the next year and we hope to be able to make it into the most desirable neighbourhood in the area very quickly - something the builder laid claim to but never quite achieved.

We have had several issues to attend to during the last year and we are glad that you have noticed the tranquil area and the flowers !

It is planned to install fountains or restore the peddle boats into the main lakes next year - the AGM is held shortly and the new HOA Board will decide what to do.

I will be printing your comments off and giving the Board members a copy - it goes to show their efforts are appreciated. Any other suggestions you have or anyone else has that has previously stayed in the community will be very much welcomed.

Thanks again.

Keep up the good work! Our downtown area has a canal with fountains and peddle boats and it is a lovely way to enjoy a summer day.
