Howdy & thanks for your time!

We've been thinking about joining for years. With recent prices at the Yacht Club, we're thinking it's time do more than think about it.

1. If I want to take an Adventure vacation for instance, lets say that I need 1000 pts total (500 x 2) & after banking, borrowing & begging, I can only come up with 777 points, can I pay for the point differential or do I have to wait until I have the points / adjust my expecations?

2. Can I combine points: If I own 50pts @ BCV, 75pts @ BWV, 50 pts @ HH; & 25 pts @ VWL all with the same use year, do I end up with 200 points (and 4 Home resorts / 11 month reservation privelieges) to use at any of the 4 resorts or just the specific points at the specific property?

3. Can I bank 2008 points & then bank 2009 points while 2008 points are still banked (realizing that the 2008 pts expire in 2009)?

4. Can reservations only be made when the points are available or can you make the reservations regardless if you have the points at the time of the reservation? ...as long as I have the points when the reservation begins.

5. Borrowing - all points or only what is needed? Does it "flag" the remainder of the points in any way, or do they behave like untouched points?

I'll take a stab at the questions:

I must admit I know nothing about booking outside of DVC resorts or Disney regular resorts. Sorry.

You can use only the home resort points to book in the 7-11 month owners booking window at that home resort. At the 7 month mark from your reservation check out date, all of your points become "equal" as far as reservations and you can combine them to stay at any of the DVC resorts.

Yes, you can do that.

As long as you will have the points during the time of the reservaton you can make your reservations at any time withing the prescribed booking windows (up to 11 months at the home resort and 7 months every where else).

You only borrow as many points as you need to complete a reservation, and this is done only when you are actually making the reservation. The remainder of the points that are not borrowed will stay in their original use year with no "flag"...they are untouched points that can be still be borrowed or banked or used for a reservation.

I think you have a pretty good handle on the DVC basics. Keep asking those questions, and good luck with your decision process.

To answer some of your question the best that I can....

1) I believe you can pay the balance in cash. Many do the DCL this way.

2) You can combine points and use them all at the 7 month mark or you can use the 7 to 11 month window only at the home resort the points are tied to.

3) No, you can not bank points two consecutive times. You can only bank one year and then must use them in the following UY.

4) Reservation can be made anytime as slong as the points will be available at the time of your stay.

5) All un-used borrowed point will expire by the UY end if not used. Generally you only want to borrow what you need since they cna never be un-borrowed.

I read the OP's question as asking if you can bank one year's points if the previous years points have already been banked. Therefore, each set of points was just being banked once, which is the rule. That's why I said it is okay.

If the question was banking points a second time, I agree with Brownie.

At 11 months, your BCV points can only be used for booking at the BCV, VWL points only at the VWL, HH points only at HH, etc.

At 7 months, any resort's points can be used to book at any DVC resort.

I Thought you had to break it down to pay for a whole person so you would use points for one and cash for those you don't have enough for the complete res.

At 11 mos you can only use what you have at each specific resort but can combine at 7 or combine for an outside of DVC res

You can bank both years at the same time but you can not rebank banked points for another year

You can only borrow what you need for the reservation you are making nothing more and the remaining points are untouched

If you have several small contracts that are not connected to a master contract you may have to book days with each at the 7 month point and then ask to have the reservations linked as you would only be able to transfer once in either direction so could not combine all the points into one big pool. If they are addons to a master contract I think they can be combined for making a reservation. Someone with this configuartion of points can probably confirm or refute this statement. By banking and borrowing within each resort you could work with between 75 and a 150 points at a time working with the scenario you proposed. Keep asking those questions.
