I came across some pictures I had taken during the Sunrise Safari a few years back. Here are some views you may or may not have seen already. Enjoy.

This last one is my personal favorite. Some may not know that most of the animals sleep in pens at night. It allows for proper care. Every morning they are released back into the "wild". This picture is a great example of human intervention with Darwin's theory. They release the smaller hippo before the dominant larger hippo so that the smaller one can eat enough before he has to submit. We were lucky enough to catch this moment when the larger hippo came onto the scene. The smaller hippo immediately stopped chewing and they stared each other down for what seemed like an eternity. Once the smaller hippo was put in his place (he blinked, ha ha), all was back to normal.

It's witnessing moments like these with my family that keep me going back.

Thanks for sharing the pics! I've read that the special safaris aren't as "rushed" as the normal safari attraction at AK...is that true? Do you get closer to the animals or is it just that you had enough time to set up your shot and zoom in? I've never taken great pictures on the regular safari b/c by the time I figure out what I'm taking a picture of the vehicle's already lurching along to the next area! :sad2:

It's a completely relaxed tour with plenty of stops along the way for pictures. The animals are very active as they come out of the pens (mmm Breakfast). We were still on the same road and vehicles as the attraction during this part of the tour. Most of these pictures were without zoom (you can see a passenger's head in the rhino picture). If you get a chance to do AKV concierge, I highly recommend taking advantage of the access to the Sunrise Safari.

We are getting our first chance to do this in May. I just can't wait! Thanks for the pictures!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the photos, I hope they have this in the summer while we are there. Where would be the best place to watch for info on this? Do they post it on the member site?

Also, just curious what camera and lens you used for the shots, they are fantastic.

The Sunrise Safari is available for an additional fee to Concierge Level guests. Info is available on the member site. http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/resorts/resortDetail?id=ProspectsDAKVEntertainmentPage

The camera was a stock 5.0mp Canon Powershot A95. The lens that came with it is a 7.8 to 23.4mm.

Thanks for sharing the pictures- we are planning to do the Sunrise Safari this Oct. ;)

Great pics! We, unfortunately, will not be able to take advantage of the Safari when we go in April....just didn't fit our schedule.... As DW says, there will be other opportunities in the next 40+ years!:goodvibes

Thanks for the pics! Would you say that the sunrise safari is worth the price?

In terms of the tangibles; coffee, breakfast, tour guide, ride and fast passes, I would say it is worth it. In terms of intangibles; quiet morning ride, entering the park before rope drop, remarkable photo opportunities, doing something special, I would say to some that it is priceless.

Thanks for the info and the photos. I've done the regular Safari ride many times and have seen a lot animals but you don't get the chance to learn anything about them. Your description of what you saw going on between the hippos is why I want to do this tour!

Well said and I agree.:thumbsup2 Except we didn't get fast passes on the Sunrise Safari last month.

Great pictures. Thanks.

We did it last week and did not get fast passes either, but it is well worth the expense. We will do it again next time we stay concierge.
