Hi. We're going on our annual Hershey trip in a few weeks and was thinking about a stop in Phlly for a night. I've never been and think the kids would enjoy it. I'm mostly interested in seeing the Liberty Bell and all the historic stuff. I also saw something online about the Eastern State Penitentary-that sounds like something DH would love to see. Anyone have any suggestions on where to stay. Specific hotels or at least which section of town? Would would have a car but have no problem walking a bit. Thanks for any info:thumbsup2

We just Pricelined a 4 Star for next week. Got two rooms at the Hyatt at Penn's Landing for $96 a room:cheer2:

We've been at this hotel in the past and we LOVE it:cloud9:

We can walk to Olde City and to the Liberty Bell and to many other "touristy" destinations.

So, try using Priceline. With a 4 Star in Philly--You can't go wrong:thumbsup2

I was just in Philly this weekend. We stayed at a Mariott. If you are interested in touristy stuff, there is a bus that runs than gives a tour and you can get off and on to check things out. I think adults were $27 and it was called the Big Bus.

Thanks for the replies. I've never tried Priceline b/c I have 3 kids so I need at least 2 beds and i heard that you can't be sure to get that. Is that right?

We have 3 kids too! That is why we always get 2 rooms. You can't beat the price and we ALWAYS get connecting rooms!!

I live in the Philly area, and while I can't help much with hotels, I can tell you that I visited Eastern State Pen a couple weeks ago and it was way cool! You can print a coupon from their website, too.

Here's a couple of pix:

PM me if you need Hershey coupons. Their day/nite preview is a bargain not to be missed!!

I agree, ESP is very cool. Also, there's a good place to eat right across from there- Jack's Firehouse.

Look fot the purple PHLASH trolley, it is only $1.00 and takes you to all the tourist spots: Art Museum, Franklin Institute, Historical sites, etc.

Thank you Disshopkeeper! The prison looks so cool-DH and I visited Alcatraz a few years ago and loved it so this is a must see. I saw on the website that nnone under 7 can go in so have to figure out how to work that. DS is 6 1/2. Is the tour long? maybe DH can take one dd while I stay with the other dd and ds and then switch. Whatever, we'll make it work. I think I may Hotwire a hotel room-is Penn's Landing where I want to be? Or City Line? I'm sorry for all the questions. I'm just clueless:rotfl:

I wouldnt Hotwire City Line. There are two decent hotels there, the Adams mark and the Hilton (I think) but there is also a crappy Holiday Inn and you could wind up with that.

Penns Landing is ok in the tourist spots down near the Chart House and the Moshulu but further down you get the strip clubs and stuff. I know there is a nice Comfort Inn that is in the good part.

It was a long time ago but I heard the Sheraton in Society Hill is nice.

There is also the Ritz Carlton and the Fours Seasons very nice...

I also heard the National Consitutution Center is very nice.

go to www.gophilly.org

I also recommend the preview plan for Hershey as well
