My dad has a snow blower and enjoys snow blowing. He always does his house and the people next door first (they cut his lawn when my parents are away, it's an agreement they have). depending on how much snow there is and what he's up to he'll do some of the other neighbor's walkways and or driveways. We got 18 inches dumped on us last night so needless to say it was a lot of work. One of the neighbors that he normally does (but not always) had the balls to call him this afternoon and say, I see you did your property and so an so's, what time will you be doing mine?
Are you kidding me?!? He's 64 and you have an 18 year old son living with you, have him get off his lazy butt and pick up a shovel!

We moved last summer but up until that move we had neighbours that were similar, although not quite as nervy as to call and ask. They'd be out shovelling and looking at our house repeatedly - also taking their time with the shovel figuring if DH came out he'd finish up for them. They also had an able bodied 22 yr old in the house. Who we renamed slug.

Sad that a good deed becomes misconstrued by the entitled. Yuck.

wow, my neighbor works for a mall as head of maintenance so has access to a plow. He always plows our driveway but I NEVER expect it, let alone ask for it! I do a lot of baking though and send a lot of goodies their way to thank them.

That is awful.

I'm sort of on the flip side. Most my neighbors have snowblowers but we do not. My DH just fell and broke 2 ribs so i'm doing all the shoveling. The other day one of the neighbors with a snowblower was outside and was on her cell. She saw me and started launching into a tirade how RUDE neighbors who don't shovel the sidewalks are because she has to walk her dog through snow. Meanwhile, i don't have dogs. I do shovel the walks but not always immediately. I had to get to work that morning. I did them that night.

My thought is if you want them done so bad do them with your snowblower! I would not expect my driveway of course but she/her husband go exactly to the property line and stop. When I shovel, I just go from drive to drive on the sidewalks, both sides. It takes 2 min longer so what? Again, i don't expect it but if you are going to complain take action!

Your Dad is quick on his feet, good for him:thumbsup2 The silence after that must have been fantastic!:rotfl:

We have two neighbors with plows. they are also the only two neighbors we have! They plow the road past my house because they have to in order to get to their houses. I still thank them and buy them something at Christmas since they won't accept cash payment.

And when the driveway isn't full of cars, they'll even push back the snow so that we don't have to snowblow that! Great neighbors but I would never expect it. Nice that they do it and when DH has had various surgeries I've asked if they would plow and offered them money. They won't take it but I make the offer.

Here you'd be fined. Most places around here you have to have your sidewalks shovelled within 8 hours of the snow stopping (yes, that includes middle of the night.)

But I agree - if she's that desperate, then she could be nice and plow them for you.

I sometimes shovel the whole section of sidewalk between my driveway and my neighbor's since they don't shovel. I know a few people walk their dogs no matter what weather. I don't walk my dogs when it's snowy because I could probably count on one hand the number of people in my neighborhood who shovel their sidewalks. In fact, most of my neighbors who shovel their driveways don't even keep the pile off the sidewalk.

My parents snowblow for two neighbors, but neither are the type to ever be snooty if they didn't get to it.

Wow, that was nervy.

A Good Samaritan plowed my drive for me just after Christmas. No one could tell me who it was, so I put a thank-you note in our local newspaper. I VERY much appreciated it, but I would never expect someone to do that for me! Yeesh, some people do start to feel entitled, don't they?

It amazes me how pervasive the entitlement attitude is and really concerns me. :sad2:

You think, how do these people get to the point that they have this much gall??? :sad2:

Nope, they were dead serious. Today our other neighbor (who my dad did snow blow) told my dad said neighbor was complaining how it was the biggest storm if the year and my dad "left him to shovel it".
:sad2: He'd be left to shovel every other storm from now on.

Ridiculous.
