I've only just calmed down enough to post about our experiences with the bad storms on Monday.
We live on the south coast of England in the new forest in a beautiful village called Milford on Sea. We own a beachhut together with our friends (they cost stupid money down here and although we've owned it for years, the costs of running it each year make it sensible for our three families to do so together).
On Monday just as I was leaving work (3.45) I had a frantic call from Lesley, one of the owners, to say get down to the hut to try and salvage what we could. I had already decided to take a walk down there with the dog when I'd gotten home - just to check on the hut and see the sea in all it's mighty.
When I got down there, what was left of our beachut was 10 feet higher - on the promenade in the carpark
We share our site with two other huts. One had disappeared completely, the other had been picked up, turned 180 degrees and plonked back down again - so it was very unsafe. The roof and two sides of ours was up in the car park (I can laugh about it now, was quite amusing to drive into it and see a beachhut there).
We managed to find a few of our belongings - the more heavier items. Of course we don't keep anything valuable down there, but it's still stuff we've stored down there over the years.
However, what has made me more furious than anything was not the people who stopped to have a look, not the people who arrived en mass to take photographs (very spectacular photos - it was an amazing sight) - but the scum of the earth who stole our belongings (witnesses) and who hung around on the beach below the beachuts digging around with their metal detectors
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
(last laugh was on them though when a HUGE wave came along and got the b8888888s)
Sorry, rant over - boy, do I feel better
