Some People Amaze Me...

Today I heard a woman refer to MK as Disney World. It was very cute....

What many of you don't realize is that DISNEY is really responsible for this happening in the first place.

Back when WDW first opened the Magic Kingdom -WAS- Walt Disney World.

It was promoted that way in all media.

There was a constant comparison between:
the SIZE of Disneyland (the park) and Walt Disney World (the park).
the RIDES of Disneyland (the park) and Walt Disney World (the park).
the ATENDANCE of Disneyland (the park) and Walt Disney World (the park).
etc.

Then, after YEARS of this, they built "EPCOT Center" and the TV and newspaper promotion and discussion was ALWAYS about making a trip to Walt Disney World "AND... EPCOT Center".
The "AND" was always part of the statement... even by travel agents and Florida locals like the Kissimmee Tourist Council (who had national TV commercials and other ads that were all worded that way.)

It really has only been since about the time Disney built the Disney/MGM Studios that the whole place has been referred to commonly as "Walt Disney World".

Technically, MK was always "offically" the "Magic Kingdom" at Walt Disney World, but virtually EVERYBODY at the early times called that park itself "Walt Disney World".

Old habits die hard (and they get passed on to the next generation).

And that doesn't mention how many NAMES "Epcot" has "officially" had over the years.

Well, to the amusement of my DH, my mother calls the MK Fantasy Land. My son calls EPCOT Epcopy. :thumbsup2

My 12 year old nephew calls it Epacot.

I've corrected him but since he is a kid I don't go too crazy on him. LOL

My 5 year old ds has always called it Epacot. I will be sad when the day comes he says it the right way. Epacot - BTW - is his favorite park too, he would be happy to go to WDW and just go there every day!

Very True. My husband and I get very sad when our daughters start pronouncing things correctly after they have said it in their cute little way for a few years. It means they are growing up. :guilty: Time just flies too fast.

my 12 y/o son calls it epacot but only because thats what his dad calls it-he knows how it really is
but epcock !! too funny

my husband called it Epicot until about five years ago!

Awhile back at my mork someone was saying something about going to Florida, and I asked if he'd be going to Disney, (he was planning like a road-trip thing to see Florida landmarks,) he said no, but maybe he'd be going to Epcot. Which then I explained to him that Epcot was part of Disney World, (at least he can pronouce it right,) but we were arguing about it for awhile, and everyone at work knows I'm a Disney freak, so I don't know why he would even consider for a second that I was wrong about something about Disney.

My daughter used to call it eggcot, but she gets it right 99% of the time now. Robo, you beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing, in the begginning, the MK was Disney Worlds. As odd as I think it is with some of the lazy people around (not on these boards), I am surprized that they even reffer to the different parks instead of just Walt Disney world

I just wanted to mention (not trying to be a downer here) but if people habitually mispronounce words, that could be sign of a learning disability. These people can be, and usually are successful by all of societies standards. They are usually hard workers, have above average intelligence and are over achievers, they have to work very hard to cover up and make up for what is really just a (brain) processing issue. I know my youngest DD has a horrible time with word pronunciation, but she is the cutest, sweetest, most hard working charismatic little thing that people have no idea of her struggle.

I'm not throwing stones, trust me, my oldest DD and I are the worst when it comes to busting on (amongst ourselves not to their face) someone's uneducated Disney remarks, but just wanted to shed a little light :sunny:

That being said I can't wait to go to Epcock in June I just wish it were a little closer to WDW ;)

I enjoy the Epcock comment! It makes me think about how my friend Jeff calls Magic Kingdom "Magical" Kingdom. I correct him, but he still says it that way. I guess in a way it really is a magical kingdom. ::MickeyMo

LOL wow! Some people just don't get it do they? That's ok last year an old teacher stopped me and asked me if I was going anywhere for spring break. I replied yes, Disney World. He said "Oh the one in Ohio?' HMMMMMMMMM....NO.

:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao: :lmao: That has me in tears laughing so hard.

I like to say things wrong to irritate people. I don't know why but it pleases me. I drove our Small World vacations travel agent nuts last year by calling the Hoop Dee Doo the "Hoop N Holler". She probably thinks I'm the biggest idiot on the planet. :teeth:

My 3 year old can't wait to go back in the volcano at the "Pollination" - I'm hoping she was saying "Poly - Nation" - if not, too much bee watching in the springtime maybe?

My MIL, bless her heart, also calls it EPCOCK. My DH has to correct her all the time. But, she has a habit of misprouncing things. For example, she pronounces "enchiladas" as "enchilitis". :lmao:

I literally laughed out loud at this :rotfl2:

Someone at work who had never been before was talking about going to Animal Kingdom & the United Kingdom??? (she meant MK). I didn't even correct her but
thought it was relly funny!!! :rotfl:
