Some parents... Geez! Just a little venting

No. I'm just posing the question and wondering about the degree of their clueless-ness.

I know. ;) I was just poking fun.

In this job you have to laugh at certain things, otherwise, you will go crazy. But she's right, some want the police to scare their kid, or are just trying to scare by calling, and some really do expect us to parent their child.

I recently took my first cruise. The line to disembark was LONG. By the time we got off the ship we had walked more than once around the ship. As we neared the end, a man got off the elevator and tried to join the line. A teenage girl behind me very nicely told him that the end of the line was way back. He turned around to walk in the direction she pointed. I don't know how far back he went, but he didn't cut in line there. I turned to the girl and said "good job".

I wonder how long it will be before they find a way to add FP+ to that. ;)

I would always tell them but I wouldn't be righteous about it. I remember walking up to the old FP machines at Space Mountain once and someone immediately bit my head off and told me to get in the back of the line; apparently a CM who was behind the machine had it out of service working on it and a bunch of people who looked like they were just standing around several feet away were waiting to use it.

So true, a similar thing happened to me and it just put me in a funk for awhile. I don't let people walk over me but I am polite and when on a ride that has like the room and then a line, ex ToT or RnRC, I always just go with the flow and let the pushers and shovers go. To me it's not worth it, I'm on vacation and I want a relaxing, no drama vacation:flower3:

Just as much as I hate the parents who encourage their child's bad behavior I hate when they completely tune it out and then get mad at strangers for requesting that they parent their child. Example: Last Saturday we were at the Odyssey watching World Cup and their was a 7-8 year old boy who would stand on the cushion of the couch they provided then jump as high in the air as he could and slam down on it with his knees while yelling. Did the parents tell him to calm down no, were they worried he might break the couch no, were they worried he might potentially hurt himself no. They just sat there and ignored him. And I'm sure if anyone had said anything about it to them they would have been angry at said person. If you aren't going to be an active parent then you shouldn't have children

I'm not defending this behavior in any way. And I would have probably been annoyed as well. But I will play devil's advocate. LOL

I know at home, I tend to ignore "mischievous" behavior sometimes because the more attention you pay it, the more they want to do it. As a parent you learn how to tune out that type of behavior. It's not that you're a bad parent, but you do tune out certain behavior because otherwise, you go crazy.

I can see why they might have been trying to tune it out especially if they were paying attention to the World Cup, but that is a little much if he's jumping on the couch.

But I'm just saying, that might have been what's going on. Don't be so quick to judge someone as a bad parent is all I'm sayin', over one incident like that.

Some Snowflakes (child and adult) should be mindful of how hot it gets at WDW, physically and emotionally. Just remind yourselves that for every fun-sucker out there , another happy face will pass you :goodvibes

Wasn't trying to say they were bad parents it was just the most recent example that I could think of where I've seen parents not "parent" their child. I've seen kids poke the koi fish with sticks, chase after and kick ducks, stick their hands in strangers food, etc all while they parents were "watching" them but chose to ignore it. This is one of the main reasons why I avoid MK as much as possible.

It's why I don't play well with others anymore. I just prefer to stay away from people in general. :rolleyes1

I'm with ya! I work with highly paid executives who I'm not sure how they are able to find their way to work and back.

I prefer to be alone on my off time and it drives the DW crazy.

Do you think this only happens in the MK?

No not at all I just find it more prevalent there which makes sense as its the park that is the most geared towards children. In fact two of my examples the koi and odyssey are at Epcot. I just know I'm usually one who will eventually and up having to say something and then get the explosive parent so I just try and avoid the situations all together.

Well those examples are all way more than "irritating" behavior LOL, that shouldn't be ignored. My DH chooses to avoid MK also. ;)

Some of each...some tell us they want an officer to scare them and some actually think parenting their kids is part of someone else's job. :confused3

My parents used to threaten not only that but to put me in 'juvenile hall'...is that even a thing? I'd hope not, at least for not cleaning one's room...:badpc:

Last week while waiting in line to get in Darths Mall at SWW, I had a woman and her daughter both yapping at me that I was in the wrong line. She indicated that there was a line for shoppers and a line for character pics. In actuality there was only one line to get in the building, and then once inside another line for character pics.

They kept telling me "you're in the wrong line, because this is the picture line." I finally said "why are you messing with me, I'm just waiting to get inside like everyone else here, whether its for pics or shopping :headache:!!!" Then they both just made a sourpuss and then ragged amongst themselves about how "nobody knows what they're doing here!"

Geeeez, Freakin busybodies!!

LOL, I think you're the second person to mention that kid on the boards. It seems someone else was talking about a kid standing up on the seats a few days ago. Anyway, many years ago, I was on the conveyor belt going up to the TTA, when two men starting fighting at the bottom. They were throwing punches along with pushing and shoving each other  I think one guy went flying into the shrubbery nearby. They had teenage kids who were trying to get them to stop, but these bull headed guys just kept on fighting. Disney security came by and yanked them apart and hauled them off somewhere. Someone said they would probably be banned for life from WDW. I really felt sorry for their kids, as it probably ruined their vacation :sad2: Hopefully if the fathers were banned, the kids were at least allowed to come back. I believe the fight started over accusations of line-cutting.

Come on now. Cable going out? My internet would be gone in that deal. Definitely an emergency. :lmao:
Yes indeed! I think there's a special 911+ line for that. And if there isn't there darn well should be :rotfl:

it amazed me how few people used FP even when it was the ticket based machines --

once we used FP to get onto Splash Mountain and as we were walking past a family, the kids turned to their mom and asked why we were skipping the line -- the lady said "they must be staying on property so they get frotn of the line" -- I actually stopped and excused myself, and went over the FP program with her --- explaining where the machines were how they worked, and that you didn't need to be staying at a resort.

later that evening we saw the lady and her family again at the Main Street Bakery and she stopped to thank me -- they had done more rides in the 5 hours since we saw them than they had the last two days --

Confession: It was probably me in the World Cup thread...Like I said earlier its was just the most recent "incident" so it stuck out lol
