Some "nature" pictures from our vacation in Canada

I haven't posted for a while, so I thought I would post some pictures from our recent trip to Ontario, Canada. We rent a cottage on a lake and have a great time swimming, waterskiing, fishing, and relaxing, in general. Here are a few...

A storm brewing in the distance...

My version of the "tiny buzzard"

I tried for a sunrise photo. This is the best one I got, along with about 25 mosquito bites (no exaggeration )

Now, this one is a terrible photo, but I'm posting it anyway. I was in the right place at the right time....except with the wrong lens . I think this is an osprey. It swooped down into the water and grabbed a fish and flew away. The fish is HUGE. Too bad I only had on my 28 - 75mm lens, and not a longer zoom. Uggh!

This great blue heron was fishing. Too bad part of a kayak and piece of wood were also in the picture!

My husband waterskiing - it's really hard to drive a boat AND take pictures at the same time!!

And finally... warning...this last one is gross. Have you ever heard of a meat-eating chipmunk? This one is eating a frog. Don't scroll down if you don't want to see it!!

Nice photos, Merrywheather! I esp. like the first one of the storm brewing.

As for the meat-eating chipmunk, I never knew chipmunks ate anything other than seeds and leaves and stuff....until this weekend. Our dog kept sniffing at one of our cold-air return vents downstairs, so I made DH open it up and look inside. Sure enough, he found a baby mouse. Coaxed the mouse into a jar and took him outside and let him loose in the woods. A little later, I was outside checking out my flowers and saw a chipmunk sitting there holding something that he was chewing on. I got as close as I could, and sure enough - that chipmunk was eating that baby mouse. I had to look up chipmunks on the internet to find out that they are, indeed, carnivorous.

very nice photos...interesting about the flesh eating chipmunks...i'll never look at chip and dale the same now that i know they might take off my hand

I am still going through my trip photos. Here's another "interesting" one. It's a rainbow at sunset (there was no rain). This is called a sun dog. (I actually looked this up before I posted this time!)

If it makes anything better, my cats used to bring home chipmunk heads when we lived in KY. Since we moved to FL, we do not let them outside. There are too many gators.

I am still going through my trip photos. Here's another "interesting" one. It's a rainbow at sunset (there was no rain). This is called a sun dog. (I actually looked this up before I posted this time!)

You should live in coastal FL, b/c things like that are a daily occurrence.
