Some more Non-member questions

I'll apologize in advance if these questions have already been asked/answered. I looked around and didn't see them, but perhaps didn't look hard enough.

In any event, I am a non-member at this point and will hopefully be renting some points in the not-too-distant future for a trip in May '06. Before I did so, I wanted to ask a few questions.

1) Would we get the Magical Express thing if we rented points and stayed at a DVC resort?

2) The dining plan - I know we can get it and I know the arguments about it, but do DVC members get discounts to restaurants anyway (thus possibly making the dining plan less beneficial)? And even though I'm not a DVC member, by renting through a DVC member would I get any DVC benefits or no?

3) If we didn't get the dining plan, we may try to hit up a grocery store. Do they still deliver? I read somewhere they did, but that was awhile ago.

Thank you in advance for your help. Once we book, this may be the hardest 9 months I have to wait until I have kids! :rotfl:

1) Would we get the Magical Express thing if we rented points and stayed at a DVC resort? Yes, ME is available with a DVC stay.

2) The dining plan - I know we can get it and I know the arguments about it, but do DVC members get discounts to restaurants anyway (thus possibly making the dining plan less beneficial)? And even though I'm not a DVC member, by renting through a DVC member would I get any DVC benefits or no? No dining plan. The best answer I can give about the discounts here is POSSIBLY. Your key will say "DVC MEMBER", but many of the restaurants are asking for the Membership card as well. You can always try, and the worst that could happen is they could turn it down.
3) If we didn't get the dining plan, we may try to hit up a grocery store. Do they still deliver? I read somewhere they did, but that was awhile ago. www.wegoshop is the place to order groceries if you do not have a car.

I have answered in your quote.

Yes. You might have to have the owner call for you, but you would definitely be eligible.

NOPE...no dining plan if you are staying on points...either your own or rented.
but do DVC members get discounts to restaurants anyway (thus possibly making the dining plan less beneficial)? And even though I'm not a DVC member, by renting through a DVC member would I get any DVC benefits or no?
The correct answer is yes, we do get some discounts and benefits; no, you would not. Having said that however, your room key will probably say "DVC Member" on it, and some have gotten benefits with just the key. More and more, however, I think people are asking to see both the key and membership card, so I wouldn't count on anything.

1) Yes, you could use the magical express if you are staying at a DVC.

2) You can't get the Dining plan if you are staying on points (rented or otherwise). DVC members do get some discounts at some restaurants (usually 10% or so). However, the Disney Dining experience card (DDE) you can get for $50 if you have an annual pass, and that gives 20% at restaurants (including alcohol purchases). Note: DVC member discounts are for members, so you mayr or may not be able to get the discount. If they only ask to see the room key, you'd be alright, but if they require you to show a DVC membership card, you wouldn't get the discount.

3) Yes, there are still grocery stores that deliver.

LOL... I was thinking that when I hit to post and then saw all of those other postings saying pretty much the same thing.

Of course, I'm sure there are quite a few other posts that say the SAME stuff.

Why isn't there a sticky up there for DVC Newbies FAQ? (wait maybe there is one... I forget) :confused3

Holy crap that was fast! Thanks for the quick responses. I misunderstood the dining plan, but looks like we'll plan accordingly then and see if we can get any meal discounts. If not, well, it's not like we'd get up and leave.

Thanks again.

Oh, and for some reason I couldn't get the FAQ to come up, but if it's in there, my bad.
