"Some limitations apply ... "

We are dangerously close to taking the plunge, legitimately, for real ... at any rate, our intent is to purchase at the bare bones level, which suits us currently just fine, with an eye toward adding points as need be. Question for you vets, especially those of you who started small: the literature states at the $10,050 level "some limitations apply." After looking at the public offering statement and trying to ask the right questions, I still can't figure what those limitations are, other than simply not having as many points to play with and having to be creative with exchanges. Can anyone enlighten me?

Remembering when ... the Mickey Mouse Revue was a highlight of Fantasyland ... and soft drinks were thirty cents.

You're on the right track. The limitation refers to the possibility that it can be harder to trade into the II offerings. Originally, they sold enough points to have a week in a one-bedroom to use for trading. The smaller packages are less than this so you may have a tougher time trading.

I'm not sure what that means either. 150 points can be used any way you can use them. Maybe they are referring to the banking and borrowing feature.

Pam is right. That statement is there because some trading opportunities will not be available with a 150 point contract.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx,This has failed every time it has been tried, why do we still have liberals?

The limitation on II trading was not a big concern for us when we first bought 190 points in 93. Since that we have bought four more contracts totalling 500 points, which is where we like to be at this point. We found that the DVC system is fine for us and to date we have only used II once. We enjoy the latitude for vacations that DVC offers and have enjoyed them to the max.

Pam and Rich are correct. when we purchased in 1997 we were advised we could purchase 150, but they suggested 220, which was the minimum amount we needed to exchange with II. we knew we wanted to exchange, so we went with the 220..and have added on twice since then. Not for II exchanges but for DVC vacations!! Of course, if you banked or borrowed, you would have enough for an II exchange. I don't think the points have to be in your current use year..but I'm not 100% sure about that. I just know that our guide told us needed to start with 220 if we wanted to take advantages of trading. We were new to the game, hadn't heard about DVC until we stumbled across it during our 1997 vacation and didn't know the right questions to ask!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi
I am just remembering something from back when I first looked into DVC.. I think 150 points won't give you enough to allow you to exchange internationally thru II. I am not absolutely sure that is correct but it is something I remember hearing.
OKW 1997 150 pts
add on 1999 88 points
Never any regrets!
Shirley

I'm not clear about whether you can borrow/bank for trading (I think you can). But, also in the fine print, is the possibility that banking/borrowing can be discontinued or suspended. Hasn't happened but DVC did cover themselves.
