I jusr returned from SSR on Friday. They had ME for the return trip. They are printed out boarding passes and sending the luggage. I got my boarding passes no problem. But there was a problem, they couldn't print the ME luggage tags so they weren't able to send the luggage. You would think w/an organization the size of Disney, they would have some kind of backup system, but they are still working out the kinks. Not sure if it was down the whole day or not, but us and the woman in front of us weren't able to use it. When I came back from Epcot, it was a different person, and when I asked him if it was working yet, he didn't know what I was talking about.

Maybe the first CM wasn't using the system correctly or was confused with it all being new.
Did you use ME?
How did you finally get your luggage to the airport?

Well, I got my boarding passes at SSR. And just threw my luggage in the van and dragged them through the airport like usual.

Magical Express is not officially running now (it starts May 5). But you may have been a guinea pig for test runs, with free transportation and dragging your luggage yourself onto the bus/van and then dragging it into the airport yourself.

Printing out your boarding pass at the resort is not part of Magical Express.
(correction based on following comments and repoies) You may have had your boarding pass printed by the resort staff as a courtesy separate from Magical Express.

They should print out your boarding pass as part of the Magical Express check-in:

From where are you getting your information?! Printing out your boarding pass is EXPRESSLY a part of DME, from its very concept. That's part of the "magic" (not to mention "express"). For guests who are flying home with one of the handful of "participating" airlines, they have the privilege of "resort airline check-in," not just a luggage service. Please do some reading before spreading false information, or, if I'm wrong, please set me straight.

I got this from http://www.mousetyme.com/MAGICALEXPRESS.html:
"A secondary benefit of the return trip to the Orlando International Airport – Resort Airline Check-In – offers remote check-in for select Guests, allowing them to check their luggage and receive their airline boarding passes at their Disney Resort. At this time, this remote check-in service is only available for Guests flying domestically on the following airlines: American, Delta (including Song), Continental, and United (including Ted)."

I got this from http://allearsnet.com/pl/airport.htm:
"If you are flying out with any *participating* airline you can avoid airport check-in lines on domestic flights by checking your luggage and receive a boarding pass before ever departing your Disney hotel. Airlines are: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Song, United Airlines or Ted."

Read the first paragraph. ME starts May 5. The fact that during the test phase only some airlines are available some of the time for resort check in IS NOT A VALID REASON TO COMPLAIN.

There has been a lot of misinformation, many by CM's. Some people are now referring to ME as the bus transportation and the inbound luggage transfers and separating the resort check in as a separate service. Not technically correct but it's more accurate than all the people who think youcan't use ME at all if you're not using a participating airline.

Guests have reported having boarding passes printed out by the resort staff, using ordinary internet connections, independently of Magical Express, this is on a courtesy basis and also a hit or miss basis.

I don't think you need Magical Express luggage tags when going home, do you?

The resort check in service prints the bar coded luggage tags just like the airline would print at the airport. I think the "back up" system would require checking your luggage at the airport.

There are two different printers involved. It sounds like the "baggage tag" printer connnection was broken. That's why they have tests. (When I did my check in a few weeks ago the guy said there had been some problems with one of his printers!)

Lewisc and CarolA are correct. The baggage tags are those long, sticky tags with barcodes for the handling system - they require a separate printer.

Re: Non-ME boarding passes. I had a few go-arounds with some CMs last December on this. The official Disney policy is that ALL Disney resorts (including DVC) will print out boarding passes at the front desk. This was very official, as the first time I asked (at SSR) I was directed to a Business Center at the YC/BC, then it was escalated ....

Athenna-Van? I thought they were buses?

I took the Mears bus back to the airport. It wasn't an ME bus, as they are only using them right now to try them out. It was just a regular Mears. I should've said bus instead of van, I guess.

I think some are forgetting that ME doesn't start until 5/5
