You know you're from Jersey when....
You don't think of fruit when people mention "The Oranges".
You know that it's called Great Adventure, not Six Flags.
A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter.
You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven.
You've eaten at a Diner, when you were stoned or drunk, at 3a.m.
You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.
At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from.
You know what a "jug handle" is.
You know that WaWa is a convenience store.
You know that the state isn't all farmland.
You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey -there's
the shore and you don't go to the shore, you go "down the Shore". And when you are there, you're not "at the
shore", you are "down the Shore".
You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.
You knew that the last sentence had to do with driving.
You know that this is the only "New..."state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try...Mexico,...York, ...Hampshire -
doesn't work, does it?)
You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast
food chain AND a fast food sandwich.
You consider putting mayo on a corned beef sandwich a
sacrilege.
You don't think "What exit?" is very funny.
You know that people from the 609 area code are "a little
different". Yes they are!
You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton -
that's for out-of-staters.
The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or
local bar.
You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.
You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.
Every year you have at least one kid in your class named Tony.
You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos
opening credits.
You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of the
mall.
You know that people from North Jersey go to Seaside
Heights, and people from Central Jersey go to Belmar and people from South Jersey go to Wildwood. It can be no other way.
You weren't raised in New Jersey -- you were raised in
either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey.
You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of
the state.
You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's,
Channel, Bamberger's and Orbach's.
You also remember Palisades Amusement Park.
You've had a Boardwalk cheese steak and vinegar fries.
You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.
And finally...
You've NEVER, NEVER pumped your own gas.

Highlands, New Jersey has the highest elevation along the entire eastern seaboard, from Maine to Florida.

This is incorrect.

High Point, NJ has this distinction.

I liked this one, Beth, when I was there in NJ for a few business trips a couple years back. And I sure enjoyed all the DIS meets we had there in NJ, great folks.

You learn something new every day. :)

That was soooo cute...I'm a Staten Islander by location, but a Central Jersier at heart (my boyfriend lives there and I go to school there) so I can relate to 90% of these!

These four were my most favorite because they are the most true! How funny these are, thanks so much for sharing this, I'm passing it along to all my friends!

Ah! Wonderful New Jersey! The place you just love to hate...and hate to love! Just read my location! It sums it all up in a nutshell! Us Jerseyans call it HOME!:smooth:

New Jersey has the highest cost of living.
New Jersey has the highest cost of auto insurance
New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the nation

And yet we all stay here!!! Once Jersey gets in your blood your stuck forever!!:p :p

Ellis Island...YES! Thanks in huge part to James P. Shenton going to bat for that fight! Dr. Shenton was a professor at Columbia University and lived in Wayne, NJ. When I went to Katharine Gibbs School in Montclair, he taught Economics and History. GREAT person!

James P. Shenton

Historian/scholar, New Jersey

James P. Shenton, a Columbia University historian who helped New Jersey win jurisdiction over Ellis Island, died Friday of complications following heart surgery. He was 78.

A noted scholar of American history, Shenton advised the state of New Jersey in its lawsuit against New York over Ellis Island. The Supreme Court awarded the island to New Jersey in 1998.

Shenton joined Columbia University's history department in 1951. He became a full professor in 1966, specializing in the Civil War and Reconstruction, immigration and World War II.

A popular lecturer and devoted teacher, his classes at Columbia were typically filled. He received the Mark van Doren Award for teaching excellence, the John Jay Award and the Alexander Hamilton Award, the university's highest prize.

Shenton was the author of many books and articles, including "The Historians' History of the United States" and "The Melting Pot."

He was known outside of academic circles as a television commentator and documentary host. In the 1960s, one of his courses, "The Rise of the American Nation," was offered on public television.

Very sad to say they ARE all gone

and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from.
Sayreville ~ me too!!

You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.
You knew that the last sentence had to do with driving.
Not sad to say they are doing away with circles!!

You've NEVER, NEVER pumped your own gas.
Nope ~ never have to get out of the nice warm car to pump gas

Ah, Pork Roll....love the stuff. Whenever one of my family returns to NJ, it is required that you buy all family members some pork roll. My ex-husband thought we were nuts!

Thanks, this was fun to read! I grew up in North Jersey :teeth:

A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter

Yum, every Sunday, Dad would go to the bakery and get hard rolls and donuts for breakfast. We couldn't have a donut until we ate a roll. :teeth: You can't get rolls like that here in PA...

You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's,
Channel, Bamberger's and Orbach's.

What about Alexanders? Anyone remember that? With the big "mural" on the front of the store?

New Jersey is home to the original mystery pork parts chub (no, not spam) Taylor Ham or Pork Roll.

Another yum.....I haven't had Taylor Ham since high school. (We moved to PA after I graduated)

Hey, I'm in the 609 area code. Also, we go to the beach which is only a few blocks from my house.

:teeth: Gotta love it! As someone who grew up near 287, 28, 22, 78, 202 and 206, I'm proud to be a Central Jersey-ite who can easily negotiate jughandles and circles. (As DH kept yelling "left, left, you need to be in the left lane to make a left!")
