Some disappointments on the fantasy

Don't you think many first timers want a show on the first night? It starts the cruise of with a bang and you get to experience something and meet the cruise director.... I certainly think it's a good start to the cruise. Or at least put a show on and give people the choice of wether they want to attend.

Disney's strongest asset is surly Thier IP and entertainment. Why leave that huge theatre empty? I think the ship should be bursting at the seams with things to do give people choices. Same with the dining rotations... Its either eat at your rotation or make do with pool snacks and basic service If you don't want to attend a certain restaurant.

They don't leave that huge theater empty- they show a movie in there. So they are utilizing the IP and it costs them basically nothing. While putting on an actual show is surely more expensive than a movie.

Would I like to see a welcome show on the 1st night? Yes, but on a 7-night cruise I would think skipping the first night makes the most sense. Its a long day of traveling and unpacking for most, especially families.

I really liked the Boarding Day’s “Freshman Orientation” style WDT meeting/ show. You saw the Cruise Director, got a welcome and some possibly-useful information. I enjoyed the Welcome Aboard show.

Now, I skip some production shows and don’t bother with magicians. I used to go to every night’s offering and the 10 pm Adult gatherings.

I have been enjoying the Buena Vista Theater, but am not happy with the direction / offerings that the broader Disney collection of film companies is making. And the dinky twin theaters on Wish are not the venue I want.

@pearljammer - are you sitting further back in the BVT? It took me several sailings to realize that the top rows had shorter knee space. - And I may have started counting the ways. 😉

The question will be are new cruisers happy with what they get for their money? And will they take their money elsewhere. These newer generations may not want the cruise experience offered in DCL’s first 25 years.
I loved that old Welcome Aboard show on the Magic. :goodvibes :lovestruc It was short, kind of hokey and always predictible but I always enjoyed it. It was simply how a great cruise begins. We often had Christian for a CD and he would talk for a while and explain what would be coming up the next day. I really do miss it. I guess it went away with the ice sculptures and amazing Halloween decorations.

Ice sculptures. Chocolate dessert buffet with fountains.

I was on the 8/31 sailing on the Fantasy. I loved being able to catch princesses just hanging out around deck 4. I got Snow White, Mulan, Cinderella and Belle with no wait at all. Also got a picture with C3PO in the kid's area one morning, highlight of the cruise. :thumbsup2

I'm not saying it's compulsory to attend the first night show 🤣 it's not the "muster show"

I just missed it. As a Disney fan if the choice is ... Do you want more live shows .... Or less live shows ? I'm surprised by anyone is picking "please give me less for myoney".....And while you're there I want less activities and please make the staterooms smaller 🤣

Doesn't mean anyone is wrong... We all like different things ❤️

We sailed the Fantasy in June 2024 and was surprised that there wasn't a show on the first night. There wasn't a movie either. There was no entertainment in the WDT on the first night.

I think we were on the same sailing (Sept7?), and it was our first Disney cruise (we've been on other lines) in 9? years- I was disappointed to not have a show on the first night- I really like the intros which get you jazzed about the week, give you info about the ship, that sort of thing.

We were on the next sailing and we loved this as well! We ran into a number of characters strolling around :)

If people want something hopefully they put something that’s not a broadway show number on the first night. Main dining is already at a disadvantage on getting merchandise so u have to skip a little bit to get stuff. Post Covid I don’t think they had broadway shows the first night. I’m fine if they do a talent act for the first night because I usually skip it if it’s a comedy/magic act since those aren’t my interests. Plus I could use the time to explore ship.

That is by design as that is how old theaters used to be. The less comfortable seats were in the back - way back when it was to discourage extra-curricular behavior in the back seats. Fun tidbit I got on an Art of the Theme Show Tour one time.
