Hi, this will be our first Christmas trip to WDW. We are ariving on 12/19-12/27 and staying at AKL. On the WDW site, the park hours for MK are 8am-12am with both morning and evening EMH, so that would be 7am-3am. Are the crowds huge at MK that entire time, mainly until 3am? We are planning other activities for Christmas Day and thinking of hitting the park late if it is feasible. Also,if anyone has done the sleigh rides offered from the WL, can you tell me what it was like, can you see anything once it gets dark? Thanks! :wizard:

The crowds were very manageable until Christmas Day then they really grew. We didn't do the late extra hours but we did do the early hours. The day after Christmas we arrived at MK when it opened & did everthing on our must do list by 11am.
We did the sleigh ride at WL. We really enjoyed it as the sleigh was so pretty & the driver was so nice. After dark we could not see very much. We are considering doing the sleigh ride at FW. I think that you might be able to see more with the lights/decorations for the cabins & camp sites.

I don't believe I'm going too far out on a limb to tell you that the MK will be very busy Christmas week.

Now, between, say 1am and 3am, it will certainly be a lot less crowded than between 1PM and 3PM.

About the sleigh rides...
we have been taking the hay-rides at FtW for decades.
And no, there's not a lot to "see" at night, but its not about sight-seeing, its all about just the RIDING.

On the hay-rides, they trot the horses thru the FtW campgrounds so you do get to see how the folks decorate their RV's for Christmas. :goodvibes

You are going at a perfect time. We did 12/17 thru 12/26 last year, also staying at AKL, and we never ran into any crowds or had to wait long for any attraction (except Soarin') right up to Christmas morning. We made the mistake of going to the MK on Christmas morning and the crowds were unbearable and this was compounded by the MK losing power that morning and none of the rides were working.....but... Christmas evening we went to DS and found it to be not crowded at all. As a matter of fact the Fantasmic show we went to Christmas night was only about 1/3 filled.

On a seperate matter don't forget to bring some warm clothes with you. It can get pretty cold (BY FLORIDA STANDARDS) during that week. We went totally unprepared and never wore most of the shorts and t-shirts we brought.

Last Christmas it was totally empty during the evening emh, well almost:)

and it was even better the night they stayed open till 4am, can you imagine being the only people on peter pan or riding dumbo 15 times in a row :)

people were tired and cold by the time emh started, It felt like we had the MK to ourselves.

We have been at WDW at Christmas for the last several years and found that the crowds are quite manageable until the day after Christmas. We have never run into huge crowds and have been able to do everything we want in all the parks. We are morning people so we always do am EMH. This year we are going from 12/20-12/28.

Hey Kaelarad,

Greetings to a fellow Marylander(even though you are a red sox fan! The O's are terrible anyway :rotfl: ). We'll be in WDW around the same time, where are you staying?

Have any of you visited another park on Christmas Day and then hopped over around 9:00 to MK and stayed for the EMH? We want to do Epocot Christmas Day with at 6:45 Candlelight Processional. Then we want to try to get to MK around 9:00 and see if we can stay to 3:00 a.m. just to say that we did it. The question is, will the park be so full that we will be denied admission at MK when we get there, or will the crowd begin leaving early enough so that they will let us in?

I am very interested in this thread. Great info!

We really hate crowds but I would love to have Christmas at the world just once. We go all the time so we have no need to be in the parks every second of the day.

How are the resorts at that time?

If you go the first hour or two of a park opening and then maybe an EMH night are crowds ok?

Thankz

WDWO
