Some Beach Club questions...

As many know from my neurotic posts, I'll be honeymooning at the Beach Club.

I have never stayed there and have a few questions.

1.) Refillable Mugs - do they offer the refillable mug program? I read at wdwig.com that you have to pay for refills, but that you get 4 oz. more beverage. Huh?!

2.) Counter Service Restaurants - Is there any counter service here?

3.) Bus Transportation - We'll have a car, and are planning on driving most places, except the Magic Kingdom, so we can go right to the gates. Is the exodus after park closing just as bad for resort busses as it is for the monorail and ferry?

TIA!

Firstly the beach club do a refilable mug program, you can refill them at beaches and cream or the small cafe that opens at breakfast time near the check in desk.

As for restaurants there is the cape may cafe which does a serve yourself clambake every evening. You can re fill your plates as much as you want and the food is good. Then there is the yachtsmans steak house, expensive but very good (we ate there 3 times on our last trip.) Then there is beaches and cream which does icecreams (to die for!!), burgers etc. In the Yacht club there is another table service restaurant which we only ate et once on our last day.

Finally on driving, you can walk to Epcot and MGM from the beach club easily. It is quicker to walk to both than it is to catch the boat. I would use the bus service to the other parks too as they are so frequent. As with MK the AK bus drops you right at the gate so I personally would not drive there by car, the buses are so frequent from the beach club that you don't really need a car to get to the parks. I personally only use the car when going off site.

Have a great trip.

Hurricane Hanna's at the pool is the only true counter service. Beaches & Cream is a very informal sit down diner that also has carry out. You will be so close to the Boardwalk that you might consider walking over there for some lighter fare. There is the take out pizza window and some other food stalls that serve hot dogs, corn dogs, etc. The Boardwalk Bakery also serves some sandwiches that can be accompanied by one of their yummy desserts!!

We stayed at the BC in May and, although it is a lovely resort, I found the food choices lacking for a resort that size. The refillable mugs are not worth the effort at the BC. If refilling at B&C, you have to stand in line behind people getting carry outs.

I agree about the refillable mugs.

You have the wrong idea about driving to the parks, though, because you certainly don't "drive right to the gate" at any of them. As someone previously posted, you are in a wonderful location at the Beach Club and can walk or boat to Epcot and MGM -- we usually walk to Epcot and take the boat to MGM. It would take you longer to get your car than to walk to Epcot!

At MK, of course, it is the bus that drops you off near the gate. You might want to drive to AK, but we have always been happy with the bus system.

The one place I would recommend driving is Downtown Disney.

Have a wonderful trip.

It sounds like I'll be buying soda at the grocery store instead of buying a refillable mug. :)

I've been to the World a few times and am familiar with the parking situation. I should have clarified that I'd drive everywhere except Epcot. MGM is a toss up. Might boat, might walk, might drive. But I really prefer the freedom a car offers you.

Thanks everyone for your help! Any other dining tips are greatly appreciated! :)

Hi Dan-

Right across the 'pond' at the Boardwalk is 'Spoodles' and the 'Flying Fish' restaurants.

We've done both of them, and can honestly say that we really enjoy them both!!! Spoodles is often overlooked as a dining location- but it has a Mediterranean flavor that is interesting to us.

Also, there are a couple of new restaurants over at the Dolphin, and both of them sound REALLY intriguing to us........

Have fun planning!!!

there's the Boardwalk Bakery. We often just grab some muffins, croissants or rolls for breakfast here. Not quite as convenient when you're at the Beach Club but it's a nice walk.

As for the lines for the resort buses after the parks let out, yes, the lines can get long. They seem to have a couple of buses ready to go at park closing. But if you take your time leaving the park (visiting the main street shops one more time!), I wouldn't think it'd be too bad.

Have a great honeymoon!!!

jeff

p.s. Have you tried Victoria & Albert's yet? I can't think of any restaurant more romantic!
