I'm 47 and have a wife and 2 kids (16 & 19) but I'm the big Disney fan.
1998 Family and Cruise
2001- Took 2 kids and cruise
2003- Took 1 kid and cruise
2005- Spend 4 days solo while on business
Now Jan 2008- I'm flying my son from Univ. of Colorado Boulder to meet me at DW MLk weekend 2008. (I actually agreed to make a business presentation in New Orleans only so I could then fly to Orlando directly afterwards-and enjoy a WDW trip. I live in Newp. Beach CA).
So for 4 days I'll be with my DS19:
Friday- AK Lodge- MGM- AK Sunset Safari
Sat- Epcot- Downtown-Fulton's Crabhouse- Cirque La Nobia
Sun. US/IOA VIP 2 parks- Emeril's & Blue Man
Mon- Seaworld - Lua (never been to Seaworld Orlando).
Then Tuesday he goes back to school and I am extending my stay SOLO from Tuesday-Sunday. I'm going to hit all 4 parks and really visit the Epcot showcase.
So- sorry for long intro:
1) I'd love to see (again) Spirit of Aloha & Hoop Dee Doo- how awkward would it be to do dinner shows solo?
2) I'm signing up for all of the tours I never did (i.e. Keys to Magic Kingdom- Behind the Scenes 7 hours 4 parks thing) Solo
My question is truly would any of you hesitate to do something at DW (i.e. dinner shows, tours, etc) by yourself? I'm probably going to sign up but is it just a bit strange by myself?

Scott2tune, you plan sounds awesome to me! I haven't done one of the dinner shows solo, but I ate plenty of table service meals solo and I have done both the Segway and Keys To The Kingdom tours solo. I loved doing the tours and I definitely did not feel out of place on them solo.

So I say...........Go for it!

I did a tour at WDS solo (WDS = Walt Disney Studios at Paris), and didn't feel awkward at all. Heck, I was there to hear what the guide had to say, not to talk with friends/ family!

I haven't done the Disney dinner shows alone, but I have been to comparable things at other places, and didn't feel awkward at all. everybody is there to see the show, and not to stare at you :)

One remark I had: I am not sure, but I think the Backstage Magic tour also covers the keys to the magic tour... since those tours are rather expensive, I would get some info, so that you don't spend your money twice for the same tour. (btw, I will be doing the Backstage Magic tour in October, but not alone)

I'd like to see the answer to this too, since I'd like to go to the Luau and Hoop Dee Doo.

When I went to WDW alone, about 10 years ago, I had a GREAT time. I stayed at Dixie Landings (now Port Orleans Riverside). I met and visited with several other travelers who I may not have chatted with if I was with other people. Especially waiting for parades and Illuminations to begin. I had a great time, not having to be responsible for anyone but myself.

after you son leaves you might consider moving to a Epcot resort - since that is the area you are interested in - AKL is kinda of far away.

haven't done a dinner show solo - yet!!!

not really interested. we did go see the old Luau - it was fine.

you make me wonder.

going this March - maybe I should consider the DDP again - just pay for the tip... and do Hoop Dee Doo.:yay:

here are list of all the tours

Well- we would all like the idea of going to WDW solo to take time out and tour and really see the surroundings- no commando style. But no one has really gone to dinner shows alone...yet. Well- I'll coordinate them and let everyone know.

And thanks Spicecat- I neglected to mention- I am in fact moving out of AKL over to Boardwalk on the following Tuesday. Thanks again.

I've never really had any desire to go to any of the dinner shows, but one of these years I am going to slow down enough to do a tour or two and I'd like to see La Nouba too. But I usually do morning till night in the parks and by day three I'm in danger of falling asleep in any chair in a dark air conditioned environment.

I did the Crystal Palace and Liberty tree character meals by myself... I had a blast and never thought one second aboutr being solo.Go..Do it and have a blast

I'll be heading out in a week for my 4th solo trip in 2 years. I did the Luau last September and also the Keys to the Kingdom tour. I've also done La Nouba alone as well. This time I'm trying the Wild by Design tour at AK, but I just realized I have to be there before the park opens. Now I'm thinking that's not such a great idea. I'll have to get up with the chickens to get there on time. Oh well!! I'll be tired, but I'll be happy :thumbsup2

Seriously, I go everywhere alone and it doesn't bother me one bit. I say go for it! Have fun! I find it a lot less distracting when I'm alone. I can enjoy myself without having any other worries. I had a blast doing these alone and met some great folks along the way.

I haven't done the luau alone. I went on a tour alone this past January. I was going to go to a tour alone in October, but I decided to do F&W Events instead - 4 of them solo.

Its fun. I wouldn't hesitate to do anything at Disney by myself, except maybe a DATW, but thats for other reasons.

I'll be very interested to hear how the F&W events go solo. Last year, was my first F&W trip and I was solo about 50% of the time. However, I didn't do any of the special events. This October I am going with my 2 sisters and since we will only be there for a long weekend, we won't be doing any of the events. But I would like to try them one of these years.

Solo 42 year old, and I would do all the tours alone. I would, however, have a real problem doing the dinner shows alone, but that is just me. Maybe it's different for a guy. The Hoop Dee Doo really is a blast!

Just keep up with the trip report when I get back and I'll post all about them in there. I'm not too worried about the sit down events - like Le Cellier Food & Wine Pairing, Chef's A Field, Living Seas since well we aren't there to socialize too much. South African Wine Event might be a bit ackward solo, but I'm friendly and I'm sure I'll make friends for the evening so I'm not too worried. Especially if they have the pinotage flowing.

Would really like to do the Illuminations cruise anyone have any info on this cost etc...!!

this is really expensive. - go do it with a bunch of other people and it is pretty cheap.

go to the top of this page - Firework cruise and how to get one - I think it says.

you go to the theme park board.
