I have been reading these boards and have noticed that there are several people that have mentioned doing a solo trip. I am a newbie to WDW so I was wondering what people do when they go "solo." I mean I think I have a general idea, but just wondered.

DH and I have been to DL, but when we go to So Cal we usually do a lot of stuff since that is where he grew up. So I couldn't imagine going to DL without him. Of course we have no kids and have only been married 3 1/2 years ... maybe in 50 years that'll be different :lmao:

I go solo once a year (my annual "mental health" trip) and I spend a lot more time in the parks than when I'm with DH. I go on more of the "kiddie"-type rides-Barnstormer, Dumbo, Cinderella's Golden Carousel (gotta be careful on that one-see my tag!). And I find that I talk more to the CMs and the children who are there. Because I spend much more time in the parks than when I'm with DH, I stay at a resort more convenient to the parks (BCV usually). When DH and I go, it's much more about the word "vacation". When I go solo, it's much more about WDW.

I just returned from my first solo visit (BCV). It was wonderful, the first of many! I went to Epcot, MGM, and MK. Was not at all uncomfortable being by myself since I'm used to dining out/movies by myself. Made a few ADR's at my favorites - CP breakfast, LTT dinner (extra special character attention when they realized I was by myself); and Cape May breakfast. Otherwise, I just ate wherever/whenever I wanted. Gelato makes a great lunch! Next time I just want a longer trip!

I will go solo if no one in my family can come. And sometimes I will go for just 4 - 5 days. Maybe next year I will be able to go for a longer time.
It's great to plan on your own and try something you may not do with everyone else. There are times when you will have a conversation with other interesting Disney people while you are in line. And you notice things you may have missed when with a group.
It took a while for me to get used to the idea that I could do Disney alone but I like it!
Give it a try -

I love solo trips (although it's getting harder and harder to go alone. The minute friends hear I'm going, it's "can I go too"). I even did last Christmas weekend solo.

It's a time to do exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it. Sleep in, don't sleep in.

I find I talk to more people than I do when I'm with a group. For meals, I carry a book since I'm an avid reader.

Have fun!
