Solo trips to disney world? Thoughts...

ABSOLUTELY GO FOR IT!!

I love and cherish my trips with my family but don't understand why that means I can't do Disney by myself. LOL.
First I love that for a very short period of time I can do absolutely what I want. I can be as busy or as lazy as I like. I'm a "meanderer" but with my family that's just not possible, when I go by myself no worries.

It's a totally different type of trip but it's just as much fun. I've only done a long weekend but it was great.

I am a 50 -ish female that has gone to DW many times throughout the years with my kids and sometimes my husband would come too. Like your husband, my husband isn't very enthused about DW. Anyway, in the past I have always wanted to go check out some of the resorts that I have never been to and also linger in World Showcase as long as I wanted but because I was with my family I conceded to doing what the group wanted. Last year I had the opportunity to go by myself for 5 days. I must say, it was was up there with one of the most enjoyable trips I have taken. I went where ever I wanted, explored every nook and cranny of WS and took advantage of the single rider lines to ride those rides as many times as I wanted. I also had fun taking the "Keys To the Kingdom" Tour. I enjoyed every minute of my trip. I stayed on property and felt very safe.
I highly recommend it to anyone contemplating going alone. Take the plunge :)

I went solo in 2006 and I mostly loved it. It was December and I got to do things that other people I usually go with wouldn't have been interested in-like listening to the storytellers from all the Epcot countries. It was also a lot of fun to eat at restaurants by myself. I found that the cast members waiting my tables were always concerned that I wasn't too lonely, stopping by the table to talk or whatever. It was easy for me to get ADRs, and in a couple of cases I turned up early and was seated right away because smaller tables are easier to fill.

I kept a trip journal in a spiralbound notebook-you might want to consider that. Because I was alone I saw so much and was still able to find a bench to sit on and record what I had done and my feelings every so often. I find myself re-reading this journal a lot, it's one of my favorite trip souvenirs of all time.

There was one downside for me...every once in a while it would have been nice to have a 'War Buddy' to share my experiences with. I didn't miss having another person with me per se, but if something absurd or wonderful happened...like when I fell headfirst into one of the Jungle Cruise boats...it would have been nice to have a laugh with someone other than a stranger. But again-I really loved my solo trip and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Haha, I get that! I actually love having my smartphone with me on solo trips because I can update Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with funny stories like that.

It's also nice to have for reading material while you're dining solo!

I won't be taking any solo trips in the near future, but I am definitely looking forward to a solo day. My DH works for WDW, and my 12 year old daughter and I have been several times this year. We've also taken various family members, but, so far, I have yet to do a day at WDW on my own. I can't wait.

Do many of you make disney trips alone? I want to do a disney world trip without my children at some point, but my DH (this means husband right? Still learning the lingo... lol) really just is not as excited about disney world as I am. Have any of you ever gone alone? Was it fun? Did you like it? Was it hard getting ADR's for one person? Spill!!!!! Please.....
Email me at darwinbull@yahoo.com for any tips on solo days. :)

I can say for certain that I am definitely an outgoing person. Meeting people and making friends won't be a problem, and I'm not at all worried about getting lonely. However, like some of you have mentioned, I think the harder part will be explaining to everyone that I'm going on vacation by myself. My husband gets it, he knows me better than anyone, and he is cool with it as long as I stay on property...(He's a worried and is just concerned for my safety). I just don't think my parents and friends would get it. I also worry I might feel guilty... like if I had just paid a little extra money and let the kids miss some school... they could come too. I know that may seem absurd, they will get their fair share of disney too, and school is more important, but I still feel guilty.

I have an annual pass and only been there twice solo... it does have it's pros and there is nothing to feel guilty about.

Why do you have to explain it to everyone? No reason to worry about whether they get it or not. I don't judge my friends and their vacations. If someone has an opinion on mine, I don't really care.

Every time I tell someone I'm going alone they give me this sympathetic look and say you're going ALONE? like my dog just died. :P
I know :) Some just don't get it. I realize it's not for everyone but it can be a lot of fun.

I love solo trips, but solo doesn't necessarily mean alone. Most of my WDW trips are solo, but I usually meet friends there. My kids are adults now, but they will occasionally go with me. My husband decided his Disney days were over after our last family trip to WDW in 2007 and to Disneyland in 2010. (He spent the second day of a two-day trip in the hotel room rather than return to Disneyland!)

It's hard to comprehend people not liking Disney. I understand you might not like hitting all the rides but a rocking chair on Tom Sawyer's Island can be therapeutic if that's your pace.
