OKay, this is a strange trip report- my husband is the one who is actually there, but he doesn't post...so I will! He has been calling me with the play by plays every hour or two.
On Friday, 12/5, he drove to WDW from SE Georgia where he is at a 2 week Law Enforcement School Safety Course....He had the weekend off, a rental car paid for by work, and a free military pass waiting for him...he was able to secure 3 nights at Shades of Green (at the CR). He got to the Contemporary around 7:45 PM (a 3 hour drive from SE Georgia), checked in and got room 7261--on the far end of the N Garden Wing. I had sent him a Mickey card with some money in it, so he was surprised. He watched the fireworks from the parking lot and held the phone up so I could hear, and took the bus to Downtown Disney to pick up his pass. He secured that no problem, and wandered around DtD and then Pleasure Island for awhile. He was a little lost (I am usually the navigator as I am the certified Disney Nut) and he wanted something to eat...he got some cocktail shrimp at Bongos. He felt a little out of place being along and it was Friday night and he said the locals were out in full force ready to PARTY! He left and had a good night's sleep at the hotel.
Saturday morning he got up early and went to MGM- he said it took over an hour to get in the park as their cast members at the turnstile weren't very efficient. Lots of people had to do the finger scan and it's a little tricky---he said there was only one CM per two turnstiles so it got things way backed up. He only went on Tower of Terror, walked around the park a while and left to Epcot via the boat. He called me at 11:15 amazed at how empty the World Showcase was...I was like, uh, Bob, it just opened! He had forgot that..he had sushi and a Kirin Beer at Matsu Nama lounge and then made a HUGE mistake....he went on Mission Space and got very queasy the rest of the afternoon. When I went on it I was slight dizzy as I disembarked, but was fine after that. He took the monorail back to CR and rested for 2-3 hours---he enjoyed sitting in the Outer Rim Lounge and surfing the web on his laptop, watching all the excitement in the Contemporary Lobby happen around him. Then he went to the MK and went on Pirates, Jungle Cruise and Splash Mtn...he got woozy again afer Splash so he went back to the hotel. He is RARELY affected by rides, but Mission Space really messed up his entire afternoon. He called me several times during this interlude, unsure where to go for dinner...he wanted a steak, so I threw out Flying Fish (I have read countless times on these boards how good the NY is there) and the Yachtman. We wanted to try either the Yachtman or Shula's on our last trip and went to Shula's...so he went to the Yachtman this time. He had a 90 minute wait, so he walked around the Boardwalk and then had excellent service at the Yachtman. He had a Martini, the Kansas City Strip and subbed creamed spinach for the potatoes- he said everything was awesome. He wants to go back next time we go. He said it is VERY cold there----about 40 degrees last night! He said the only thing that was crowded was Fantasyland and Tomorrowland at the MK- the rest of the park was empty and the rides were walk ons.
Today he went Christmas shopping for me and the boys at DownTown Disney
and then went to Epcot for lunch at Alfredos...and he got Fettuccine Alfredo & an iced tea and said it was okay. After that he headed to the MK---he just called me from there and held the phone up so I could hear the parade. Wahhhh!! He said he had been on Space Mountain (he's feeling great today!), the Rocket Jets and Splash Mountain, and was shopping for me and the boys---he was walking thru the Christmas shop and picking out a few ornaments that would hopefully travel well. He usually dislikes shopping, but he said he was having fun picking out toys for our two boys, and some tshirts for them, plus several goodies for me! What a treat to get gifts directly from WDW this year!
I have to say that although I am very sad I couldn't be there with him, it's been fun having him call me and being able to picture exactly where he is and hear the music and hub-bub in the background. I know this is a strange trip report, but I thought it might be fun to post. He said it's warmer today, but he still is wearing jeans. He is unsure where he will go tonight---I told him the hours over and over again, but he was "shocked" that the MK was closing at 6 tonight...I was like "I told you that..." He might go back to MGM, as he doesnt' really want to go to Epcot again.
