Astroworld was big in its heyday in the 70's. It was fun when I was in Jr High and High School. The park got abused and neglected after that. 6 Flags bought it and tried to revive it, but it finally closed for good.
The final nail for Astroworld was parents that lived close to the park decided annual passes were cheaper than summer day camp for their teens. They'd drop the teens off in the morning and pick them up after work. Thousands of unsupervised teens in the park with their annual pass and $10 or less for food(the teens quite frequently walked across the street to McDonald's for a cheaper lunch and then returned to the park) doesn't make for a profitable business model nor for a family friendly park.
