That is what I was thinking of....astroworld lol
Teresa

I once worked there. I still live just North of Houston. I came to this board to read about the possibility of a Disney in Texas. Apparently, it won't happen anytime in the forseeable future.

I do know people who assisted Disney when they bought land near Plantersville. Because of how dedicated people were to Astroworld, I know that people would be dedicated to a Texas Disney.

Disney could especially create a place in Texan's hearts if they created a "Texas land" with an Alamo recreation and gave it a frontier feel with log cabins and made note of the Germans and Czechs who helped settle the Texas frontier. Also, work in the Texas Ranger legend.

Since I was a kid, Disney has bought land in San Antonio in the 70s, on Lake Travis outside of Austin in the 80s, and now on the north side of Houston. All rumor and no cattle. Disney used layered multiple shell companies to buy all the parcels for WDW in Florida to keep land speculators from figuring it out and driving prices up. If Disney was buying huge tracts of land no one outside of Disney would know that Disney was involved.

Houston would make the most sense of all the rumored Texas sites. Milder winters than Austin or SA, international airport with direct flights to much of the country, plenty of water, a cruise ship port approx an hour away, and ~5 million people within an hour or so drive. The big sticking point for a Disney in Texas would be that property taxes are how we fund govt. in Texas not income taxes. That would make Texas a very expensive location for Disney.

Thanks Q Man. I was wondering why Disney didn't set up camp here. The tex thing makes sense, especially after Six Flags shot themselves in the foot and left the door wide open.

An independent theme park was supposed to set up on the far NE edge of Houston, but that was right before the bubble burst. Just like with other annoucements-that's all it was -an announcement and nothing more.

I am not from Texas, but we are moving to San Antonio from Wisconsin. Our new home is actually 6 miles from Sea world and Six Flags.
I am a solo WDW traveler most of the time. My husband likes WDW, but he is not addicted to it. Just booked my first flight out of SAT to MCO for Reunion in Dec- it was about $150 more than I would have paid to fly from WI to TX :( so that will take some getting used to. I really wish all of the Disney rumors about TX were true, it would make this move a little easier :goodvibes

Welcome to Texas. You'll like the SAT area but get ready for the heat. We get a lot colder than you'll get down south but nothing like Wisconsin.
Good luck with the move. :goodvibes

I Think SixFlags owned AstroWorld in houston at one point... But I believe I read someplace that the park is no more.

Houston peeps.... Astroworld is dead, right?

Astroworld was big in its heyday in the 70's. It was fun when I was in Jr High and High School. The park got abused and neglected after that. 6 Flags bought it and tried to revive it, but it finally closed for good.

It was located right across from the Astrodome.....the first stadium with a roof!

San Antonio is a neat town....there is a great Zoo and check out the Japanese Sunken Gardens in the Breckenridge Park down a couple of blocks from the Zoo. Great Tex-Mex all over the place!

The University of Texas at Austin was a spectacular place to go to school.
Have ya'll been to Mt Bonnell or The Oasis?

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I'm from TX! About 30 minutes outside the Katy/Houston area. I have yet to do a solo trip to Disney, but I believe one day I will....or at least just me and DS and leave DH at home lol.
