Solo dining

I’ve read that people can request (but are not guaranteed) to eat alone as a family group in the MDRs (now that they are at least sometimes combining traveling parties again). Anyone know if that might work also for a solo traveler? I would usually prefer to eat alone rather than with people I don’t know well. When I cruised solo years ago, I ate dinner at Cabana’s when I wanted a break from other folks. That is likely to not be an option in September on my 4-nighter on the Dream, so I’m exploring alternatives. (I’ve already booked Palo one night. 😊 )

I travel most of the time solo. I always request a private table. Mostly I get it assigned right away and when they haven't I will go talk to them again after the first night explaining they won't see me in the main dining room again if they can't accommodate a private table.

When I cruise solo I always ask for a private table and thus far it has been granted. Ask for it through my TA (Costco) when booking. When I get on board the first thing I do is go to the dining reservations table to double check.
good luck

This is funny, I cruised solo and they automatically gave me a private table. But I was actually upset about that since I already was spending all day alone, I wanted tablemates! They ended up finding a table with two couples, who didn't know each other, but were around my age, and we got along really well!

I have gone on a couple of solo cruises and am going on the Wish this fall. I don't care either way and just take what I get. I spend all day on my own, I can handle an hour and a half sitting with someone else. Unless that person smells or something, I don't have an issue with it.

That's what i did on my TransAtlanic cruise a few years back. I went to the Dining Room meet up place at the start of the cruise and told them I would NOT be joining them for dinner - just to let them know. And also to let them know I, of course, would be paying the requested gratuities. The one guy said "Oh, but you will miss all the wonderful entertainment! We promise to give you a solo table!" Then the other guy, senior staff I guess, said "No, it's OK. The lady obviously knows what she wants." I had planned on eating at Cabanas, which was open for dinner at that time, but I even found eating there a bit too 'intense' so I grabbed rolls and some cheese from Cabanas lunch, and foraged on the pool deck, was perfectly happy missing dinner. For me it just takes too long and I wanted to eat in peace. Which I did, in my room. Watching Parent Trap!

Thanks so much for the input and help! And especially for the link, happycamper47. I've already submitted my request for a table alone and for my dining rotation to start at AP. I've got Palo reserved for the first night, and AP is my least favorite MDR.

Now the countdown to the 30-day mark. . .
:)
