Well, I'm not sure whether this should be on this board or the Event board under W.I.S.H, so I'll try here and see what happens...

I have entered my first 1/2 marathon for Disney in January. Right now (although things could certainly change before next January) it looks like I will be all by my lonesome. So my question is, has anyone else ever done the marathon trip solo?

If you are not already, you should perhaps go to the WISH board (competition) and ask about joining a team. You will get a lot of support while training and have people to meet and run with.

I wll definitely do that, I'm just wondering about the whole "solo" aspect of it at this point.

Yup, I've done this several times, for the 1/2, the full, and the Goofy. I actually prefer these trips solo, because it's much easier to control eating right, and definitely easier to go to bed early (which is really important when you have to get up at 3AM to get ready for the race!).

Do you ever wish you had family or someone you know at the finish line cheering you on?

I'm afraid if I don't have that I won't feel as proud or as happy as I would otherwise.

I have not done the half (that's DH's territory!), but I have done a 5K solo, and I know we really can't compare the two--but--it was my first 5K ever, and I was all alone at WDW. At the end, I felt so proud of myself for finishing and was so happy, that I didn't need anyone there. I did not miss having family or friends around--I had done for ME! And I am still proud of my 5K! (And have since done 4 more.) :woohoo:

I celebrated at the BD with a wonderful, relaxing lunch! All by myself, savoring the food, the cold beverage, and the afterglow of the race. Bliss...:cloud9:

It wasn't really an issue. There's lots of people all along the course who cheer for everyone, and can be especially encouraging because they'll call you by name (you name is on the front of your race bib). And at least for me, the finish of the race is really a blur. But the volunteers at the end are really supportive, and the sense of accomplishment is just amazing.

I've done solo trips before. But this will be my first trip during the marathon weekend solo (and also my first time running in it!). I will be running in the Half Marathon- I can't wait!

Thanks to everyone who offered their advice and opinions. I decided to go for the January half and I'm registered! I'm so excited and very nervous. And it looks like it will be a solo trip after all! But I think it will be fine, lots of others around to make me feel not so alone...

I totally agree. I've only done the half, but that trip was solo. Sure it would have been nice to have someone at the finish line, but being solo nobody had to wait around for me. I did the 10k the following year and both of us went. He took me to the start, and was waiting at the finish. Like gatordoc said though, it's much easier being ready for the run if you're solo (or perhaps with another runner).

I have signed up to do the 1/2 this January, and though I will be going down solo there will be many from my WISH team there, so it will not like I will be there alone.
