Sold your SB pages?

Has anyone ever created SB pages and sold them? If so, how did you design them (ie. did you leave places for photos, adhere stickers, leave blank spaces for journaling)? I think this might be something that I would like to do, but wanted to see if anyone has done this before. What type of price did you charge?

I have not sold completed pages but I do sell page kits(just add pics and background paper)which include photo matts,title,embellishments ect. I charge 9.99 per kit (makes a 2 page layout)
There are many people who are scrappers for hire,they will do a entire page and leave room for people to add pics/journalling. There are others who do custom albums-the whole shebang.
I am on a yahoo group with one lady,she completed a album and has it listed for 300.00 or so dollars.
You have to factor in your supplies and most importantly your time/talent. I think I have read 10-20 dollars per page.
Do a search on the net and you will come up some website of people who do this.
I don't have any bookmarked to give you. Also check ebay on a regular basis as I have seen then listed there as well.

I have just started doing this...I do leave a space for the photos and a small square for captioning.

I figure the cost of the page, then I double it for my final price.

I read on two peas yesterday that some people charge $600 for an album...I don't know who she's selling to---wish I could find just one!

I have written this before but I started a album making business. I meet with people first help them put their pictures together,help them pick a theme for their album etc... I charge $90 supply fee for a 12x12 album and $5 a page for labor. For a 7x7 album I charge $50 for supplies and $3 a page for labor. When I'm done we meet again and I help them journal and included a pen to do so.

I have a great flyer I pass out. I get a lot of business through my CM consultant as well as passing out flyers at my neices and nephews sporting events as well as at my son's pre school.

You would be surprised at how many people are intrested in this. It is fun job for me easy to do as a stay at home mom and the album I'm working on now is allowing me spending money in WDW next month. Can't beat that.

Grover, beansmom and Julianne - Thank you so much for the advice. I think this would be a nice side job to do to earn some extra Disney money. I receive a lot of complements on my pages and a few people have asked me to put together albums for them; however, I never know what to say. I didn't know what would be fair. I didn't want to undercharge someone because it takes a lot of time to put together an album, but I didn't want to be unreasonable either.

Grover: Where do you sell your pages at? Do you have a local store where they are displayed? Over the Internet? Friends/family/people you know?

What sort of time frame do you give people as to when the album will be finished? Or do you just call them when you are done? Depending on your relationship with the person, do you collect a deposit (if you were going to do an album)?

If you PM me I will send you my flyer. It would answer a lot of your questions. It tell people it will take me about two weeks to do an album give or take a little. But I'm a stay at home mom and my kids take great naps!

Thanks for the offer Julianne. I sent you a PM. I can't believe you can get an entire album done in 2 weeks, I'm very impressed! Do you follow the CM technique or do you use a technique of your own? I spend a lot of time on my pages and a 2 page spread will typically take me 1.5-2.0 hours on average. Plus, I work full-time, so I guess I would have to take that into account before accepting any jobs.

I only use CM products or Mrs.Grossman but I usually do my own stuff. I use to be a teacher so to me every page is like a mini bulletine board. When I think like that can come up with cute titles, and themes very easy. I love stickers so sometimes I do go a little crazy using them.

That is good advice, Julianne, to think about each layout as a bulletin board! I try to let my creative side run free when I'm scrapping. I know there is a creative side in there somewhere, so I really like to go a little crazy! Plus, I firmly believe in no rules! Whatever I can envision, I go for! I really want my albums to feel like me! In a few generations, it will probably be the only thing that will be left, so I want it to be a good representation! However, I think I would want to give that same type of thing if I were creating an entire album for someone. Get to know their personality or their vision.

I may start by doing some layouts and go from there. Then I can do them when I have a chance and not have to put myself on a time line. Maybe start with Halloween and Christmas stuff since they are coming up and see what happens!

If you are going to try this, PLEASE charge enough! Consider this:

Figure 5 sheets of paper for a two page spread, plus embellishments. Page protectors. Album.

Remember to figure in the sales tax, cost of transportation and your time to and from the store to buy the supplies, to and from the post office to ship the item.

Then add your hourly rate to assemble the package or album, wrap it for shipment, time spent designing it.

Then there's a prorated cost of the advertising you do and the continuing education you participate in (ie magazines, classes)

to say nothing of a prorated amount for printer cartridge, pens, tools and so forth.

If you add that all up, it's a heckova lot more than $3 - $10 a page, folks!

I agree that it's quite expensive but what will a market bear?

I don't think I could get anyone to pay $10 per page unless it had tap-dancing monkeys on it---real ones.

Maybe I'm not in tune with reality?

In a local scrapbook store, there's a lady that will do scrapbooks for people. That floored me when she told me that. I can't imagine how expensive that would be! I bought one of her paper piecing things she did. A good sized stork with a baby in a blanket. Boy colors, sparkles, and blue feathers. It's gorgeous! I need to get started on that baby album! LOL! And on the blanket she has the usual stats to be filled in. I love it!

except journaling. Maybe in 6 hours. I guess I do believe simple is best but I love my pages because they are very individual. Take a power layouts class from a Creative Memories conultant. That is why I finish albums quickly and I am always caught up with my pictures. I do a smaller album usually in one night all journaled. I do albums for other peolple and usually charge about $100 for labor and supplies unless a particular item is more expensive and then I itemize it.

Have you checked out what people are selling on ebay. I know this is an exception, but $190+ for 11 pieces... check it out.

I'm sure those that sell for the big bucks have a great reputation, and probably following. But what can it hurt to give it a try...

LindaBabe - I agree to make sure that you are charging enough; however, I think beansmom has a point to charge what the market would bear. Most of my pages are probably around $8-12 each, but I would do something more simple if I were to sell it. I don't think a lot of people would pay that kind of price. However, I would offer to do more elaborate layouts if they were willing to pay for the supplies/labor/etc.

Pin Wizard - good luck on putting together your baby album. I have seen some really great ones at my LSS.

kittychatalot - I think everyone has to develop their own style. I'm only on my 2nd scrapbook. My first was my trip to the Kansas Speedway for the Winston Cup and Busch events. I did that to "prepare" for my Disney scrapbook which I'm working on right now. When I started, I was only going to do the Disney book; however, I really enjoy it and will probably continue to scrap. I don't have much desire in doing childhood photos, and since we don't have kids, we don't have a lot to scrap - races here and there, a few holidays, etc. However, I admire people like yourself who are able to keep up with the pictures! I know a lot of people that are struggling to get and stay caught up! Keep up the good work and WELCOME to the DIS!

Julianne could you send me a copy of your flyer. One of the CM consultants made a great baby book as a gift for a shower and then was offered $$ to make another one. Since I'm taking some more graduate classes I could use the extra income and apparently there is some interest in pre-made/complete books in my area.
