Just tried to do a short notice booking (which includes Friday Jan 24th) for any of GCH, DLH, PPH and all are showing sold out on the public & TA sites.

What's going on there that weekend?

This may be the reason: NAMM, the International Music Products Association trade show, January 23-26. At the Anaheim Convention Center (nearby).

There is a music convention, NAHM ?. From what I have read it shouldn't have much impact on the parks. Although I am preparing for the worst.:duck:

It's also Martin Luther King week. Lot's of folks take vacation that week since they get a free-bie.

NAMM is a huge reason. It is a gigantic international annual convention that draws thousands of attendees for several days. This fills all the local hotels, causes gridlock on the streets, and yes, impacts the crowds at Disney. These guests come from around the world and are staying steps away from Disneyland so many plan to go to Disney while here. The Convention Center is literally across the street from DCA. It is a very big deal when Disney Management posts notices to Cast Member to avoid driving to work during NAMM and to allow plenty of extra time to get to work on time that weekend. If if don't like crowds and traffic I recommend avoiding Anaheim that weekend.

Thank you for asking this! And for the responses! We too booked a last minute trip last week for the 24-28 and we had a heck of time finding a hotel! We don't stay on property, but our go to hotels were either sold out, or double to triple our normal rates. We finally ended up getting a good deal on the Ayres hotel and decided to give it a try since it has such amazing reviews on TripAdvisor. We got 4 nights for $377 total on GetAwayToday. It will be a change because we almost exclusive book suites so our kids can have a separate room, but there was no way I was paying the rates at our normal hotels, and a couple were sold out completely.

Does anyone have any ideas on how this convention will affect crowd levels in the park? Will they be way up, d/t the convention, or will most people be too busy at the convention? I know it's probably a crapshoot, just curious, though I am glad to finally have the mystery solved!

Thanks for the info, Disneydebbie. Guess we'll just have to cross our fingers and hope the crowds won't be too crazy. Hopefully nothing like mid-summer crowds! We usually go in Late November/Early December and the crowds are perfect. It doesn't have to be empty, just not drowning! At least it explains the dearth of hotel rooms!

I usually go every year during the NAMM convention, which sadly coincides with my birthday :rotfl:. You have to book hotels early because not only does the convention eat up all the area hotel rooms, but they jack the prices up incredibly in the weeks just prior for those rooms that are left. If you book in, say, November, you can get a good rate. But now? You're lucky to get a room!

However, the impact from NAMM on the park is small. In spite of having thousands of people from all over the world right across the street from Disneyland, relatively few actually go the parks. Their convention keeps them very busy and most aren't interested in DL IME. They are very dedicated to their profession and this conference is a big deal with little time left over.

I don't know about the MLK holiday. It probably impacts the parks much more than NAMM, but I've always found that time of year to be relatively quiet in the parks.
