I just wanted everyone to know that I had a good experience selling my truck on ebay (something I was very wary about before I did it). By selling the truck myself, I was able to get $4,000 more for it than a dealer would've given me.

The process was practically painless, but did take more time & effort than trading. If anyone wants any more info, just let me know! I'm happy to help!

I'm thinking about selling an antique car we have on Ebay. How did you do it because I know it is alittle different then selling "normal" things. If you wouldn't mind sharing all the ins and outs I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!!

Sure!

First, take a couple hours and read the FAQs, regulations, etc on selling on ebay motors. It is different than regular stuff. There was a flat fee ($40) for posting, but you can add-on listing enhancements. Some enhancements are worthwhile, others not...kinda depends on if you think your vehicle is a hot item or not. Once it sells, its another $40.

I also spent about a week tracking similar trucks to see where they were ending up. By the time I posted, I decided to do a NO RESERVE auction, but set the auction at the very least I would sell it for.

I decided to do a 5-day auction ending on Sunday, but if I could do it over, would have done a 7 or 10-day ending on Sunday. I got several emails after bidding ended.

It was totally worth it, but I have to be honest and say I was a nervous wreck when I posted it, but totally excited when it finally sold! the guy met me halfway (usually they come to you or you ship to them) and I gave him the truck two weeks ago! easy as pie!!

let me know if you have any more questions!!!

:D

Would you mind sharing your username so we can view your listing?

I am also interested in doing this. I have a 1999 Hyundai in great shape and i've tried signs at the supermarket and no interest.

Is it common for people to buy like this without looking at the car first? What if they back out??

I haven't done it, but I have a close friend who has now bought 3 classic cars off ebay in the last year. Actually 1 he just bought a few days ago and he's still arranging the delivery of it.

The one's he's gotten so far have been from Arizona & Illinois. We are in NY-- he's had them delivered for approx $800 through a car hauling company. The one he just bought is in Kansas and he's arranging the same thing.

Kilee what kind of classic cars does he buy? That's what mine is but I'm not sure if that's something that would really sell. Maybe he'd want mine! LOL

He buys Chevy Impala's so far-- I think they are all from the the 50's or 60's (if thats right).

Here is the Truck

There isn't a winning bid b/c the guy called me moments after it ended and we just did it over the phone (he was looking for a truck for his son and didn't have an ebay account). The truck sold for my bottom price of $15,950.

I took lots and lots of pictures! You'll see about 20 or so. You CAN use their listing which allows you something like 6 or 8? Add'l picutres will cost you more. But since I know some HTML, I just did it that way. Very, very easy and I gave give people some help with that when they do their auction. Just PM or email me.

People that buy cars off ebay are looking for a deal, but they are also careful and want to know EVERYTHING and also rely heavily on your feedback. Before you post your car, take it to PepBoys and get an inspection for about $25 (or take it to your dealer for a more comprehensive one). That way bidders know what is wrong with the car and won't be surprised. If you will need new tires in the next 6 months, tell them!

(I've also noticed that they more descriptive you are and open about problems, the more comfortable people feel about you and your honesty. People remarked postively about my auction.)

Hopefully you won't get any bogus bidders (read through my terms and you will get the impression I am serious about my sale.)

Hope I answered everything!!! :earsboy:

I am going to make one very SERIOUS suggestion for selling on eBay. Make sure you know the funds you are receiving are good. Either have it be cash (and borrow a counterfeit detection pen from your bank for the day), bank wire to you, etc. OR call the bank issuing the Money Order/Cashier's Check while the customer is still standing in front of you. DON'T just assume that because it is a cashiers check it is good. This is one of the more common scams recently - purchase a vehicle for over its value and pay with a fraudulent cashier's check. They still have a vehicle to resell and you have nothing. I'm in a small town and I believe it happened twice here recently and SEVERAL times for the multi-bank chain my DF works for about an hour away. You can get a phone # from information etc. Don't accept a phone number displayed on the document or from the person handing it to you. They also do a little trick of sending you the document but saying, well I needed to have it made out for $10,000 instead of $7,000 - can you give me back the $3000 in cash? Then you are out that cash, your vehicle and they are gone. All you have is worthless paper.

I'm not trying to scare you out of it - just BE CAREFUL. You can see in these items that I was very specific in the payment instructions. Sample #1 Sample #2 . We ended up with great bids (this was for a friend) and had to end the one auction early because he sold it to someone already. The other one still has someone coming from Canada for it. I just did my best to word it to protect him.

Congratulations! :bounce: :bounce:

I also thought of selling my car on eBay last year when I was buying another one but I didn't know enough about eBay back then so I wasn't ready.

My friend has sold SIX cars he renovated on eBay! He loves it!

Again, congratulations!

I second what jgates said about counterfeit monies.

Fortunately for me, the guy was as honest as me and gave me bank and personal references. And the cashier's check deposit he gave me cleared perfectly.

Also be sure to talk to the person on the phone. It's not foolproof, but your instincts can tell you if the person is trustworthy or not. If something seems too good to be true or fishy, it probably is!

Definitely be careful and do your research!
