SOG overflow

All the SOG experts, I have a question. I just finished reading the threads about getting other hotels (not CR) at a discounted rate because SOG is closed. We're looking at a one night stay before our first Disney cruise, and would love to stay at the Polynesian. Is it possible to request an overflow rate on the internet form, or do I have to call? Any idea what the chances are of getting it?

My husband (it's his ID, we're just the dependents) isn't happy with the idea of going to DW at all, but we're driving all the way down from PA, and I can't see not going to the Magic Kingdom. If we could get a good rate I could convince him it's a deal he can't pass up.

Thanks,
Julie

skoi, good question. I just got a reservation for the CR through SoG. We got an incredible rate of $73!!! I wasn't aware that SoG is giving discounts at other hotels not CR. But I would think that if they are, you would have to call SoG reservations directly to do so. I'm sure you've checked out the site already, but if not it's www.shadesofgreen.org. Hope it works out, and let me know! I had no idea that they were giving these discounts at other hotels!

I got an overflow rate of $89 /night at POFQ. I asked about Poly at that time, the quoted me $238. That was more than I wanted to pay, but a good deal. I called instead of emailed.

I was under the impression that if SOG had rooms available at the Contemporary, that you couldn't request "overflow" rooms unless they were sold out there.

I think I might be the asking-for-overflow expert :) I have called and asked and I have e-mailed and asked...of you are in a big hurry, I would block off an hour and call. If not, e-mail directly reservations@shadesofgreen.org put your dates and resort preference in the message. It might take a few days to hear something back, as this is the busy season.

Depending on the time of year, you can expect to pay $174 or $204 plus 11.5% tax for the bottom tier of rates for the Poly. I might suggest that you look into staying at the Contemporary if the MK is the only park you are interested in. Just as convenient as the Poly and a very good value for those eligible for SoG :)

Blondie--I have called more than once and just asked for overflow. I don't think SoG is enforcing the rule about the waitlist right now....of course, that might just depend on the reservationist, too.

Blondie, I was also under the impression that SoG is offering overflow rates even if the CR isn't full. Maybe FirstNo can clear that up for sure?

The SoG always has overflow rates, whether SoG is open or not (clearing up a statement from another poster).

The rule USED TO BE that overflow would not be offered unless the hotel was sold out AND the waiting list was closed.

That rule changed while SoG was using CR. When I was there, the rule was changed to giving overflow if the guest asked or we were sold out and the waiting list was closed. I don't know if the rules have changed back for the time frame the hotel is supposed to now be open. As poor of a job as that place did in getting information to the reservationists, even if the rules did go back, there's a good chance at least half the agents don't know about it (happened ALL the time :( ).

Like Madge wrote, you can expect to pay close to $200/nt, with tax, even at the most discounted rate SoG may offer to you. Some times, you can do better with a code depending what you might have on you (such as an AP pass) or where you live. If you haven't all ready, you may want to check the MouseSavers.com website and look at the codes they have. Compare it with what you get from SoG (yes, you can request it through email, but please be specific in your request) and go with whatever gets you the best rate. :)

Thanks for all the answers. We always wanted to stay at the Poly, but could never afford it. We've done the CR through SOG, and though we liked it, we want to try something new. We might just end up staying by the port, but those places are pretty pricey, too. We could stay at CR for cheaper than the Best Western in Cocoa Beach. We're looking at Sept., and I'm trying to wait patiently to see the codes. I like to have everything planned way before hand because I get obsessive about Disney vacations.

Thanks again.

Julie
