DBIL & family will be checking into SOG at about noon, while our family won't arrive until about 3 pm. Their family wanted to go to the parks upon arrival, and were hoping they didn't have to wait for us to check-in. Since DBIL is military(and we're not) will he have to be present for our check-in? Thanks for your help.

I don't believe he has to be there along as the room is sponsored in your name. My Mom and her red hat group are going in December with out her friends son there... so I think it should be fine.

Sorry to disagree, but this is from the SOG web site....

On the "booking" page, under the section entitled, "Rooms and Reservations," it says:

Sponsored guests must be accompanied by the military/DoD sponsor at check-in and throughout the entire stay.

In the section labeled "Sponsoring," it says that one can sponsor if:

You are a registered guest at Shades of Green
You agree to be responsible for your guests
You must accompany your guest at time of check in. Sponsored guest will not be authorized to check in without the sponsor being present
Sponsored guest reservations must check in on the same day and must depart before or on the same day as your reservation
You accompany your guests while purchasing attraction tickets
Your guests must follow the rules of the resort

As for the woman and the red hat group -- if the friend's son is the sponsor, he has to be there. If the friend's mom is the sponsor, she would need an appropriate ID card. I know some people's parents are also their dependents, but it's unusual, so I'm mentioning it in case you want to call SOG and find out for sure. It would be terrible to get there and find out you can't check-in without the sponsor and the sponsor is the son who won't be there.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated!

p.s. LadyZolt...I enjoyed the "green" highlights per "Shades of Green":lmao:

Last year when we stayed there with two rooms the military sponser had to be there with a valid ID to check-in. They may have changed things since then, I don't know but I do know in the past we have always been asked to show a military ID so I would guess check-in would be a problem without that.

We have sponsored non-military people at SOG several times. There is a form that the military person can fill out at the check-in desk to give permission for the non-military person to check into their room if the sponsor is not there.
You may want to have your BIL call to confirm just in case there have been any changes, but we were there last summer and my husband was able to just fill out the form for our friends to check in without us when they arrived.

We have stayed at SOG many, many times, and the sponsor must be staying in the hotel for the entire time that you are there. Also, you cannot purchase park tickets at the hotel without the sponsor. You have to show a military ID card to purchase the tickets. When we were there in April, my mom fell at SOG and broke her wrist and had to fly home early. My DH and I could not stay there without my parents. We would have had to move to another hotel.

Yes, that is true - the non military guest can not be checked in and staying at the hotel when the military sponsor is not there. The way I understood the question was that the sponsor would already be checked in, but just out at the parks when they got there. They were wondering if he would have to come back from the parks to check them in. The answer is no, he should not have to. We have done this several times. As long as the military sponsor is already checked in, there is a form they can fill out to give permission for their guest to check in without them being physically present at the check in desk, but the military sponsor does have to already be checked into the hotel. And no - the guest can not stay longer than the military person. They have to check out when the military person does.

It is correct, though, that the military person does have to be physically present at the ticket counter to show his/her ID card in order for the non-military guest to purchase their tickets at SOG.

In March 06 we were sponsoring our daughters and families. Everyone arrived at different times. We were the early ones and we were able to check everyone in so they could go to the desk, present ID, and have access to their rooms without us being physically present (good thing, we were at the parks!) I don't think this has changed since then. Just have your sponsor call and double check.:goodvibes

Thanks everyone for your help!
I just got off the phone with SOG. They said DBIL's family will be able to pre checkin that morning, and let the front desk staff know that my family will be arriving in the afternoon. That way DBIL's family doesn't have to be present when we check in.
