We are new to cruises. In fact, we are about to go on our very first one in a matter of days.

We drink a lot of soda. Is this a problem on the cruise?

Are there mugs we can buy like at the DW Resorts? And the re-fills are free?

If not, how much do they get you for the sodas?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

Soda drinkers won't have a problem,, you have a couple of options depending on how much you drink, soda stickers which go on your kttw card give you unlimited free sodas, coke , diet coke etc and are $5 per day on 3 and 4 cruises or $38 on 7 nt cruises , if you want to buy a mug that is a bit more i think otherwise you just go to the bar with your kttw and they give you a drink, alternatively soda is free with sit down meals and there is a 24 hr free drink station on deck 9 that has iced tea, juice , lemonade, coffee milk etc and you could bring on a 12 / 24 pk onboard for other times, lemonade , juice, tea , coffee are alos free from room service 24hrs.

Happy cruising.

Yes you can buy a soda plan - it costs $5 per day and you will get a sticker to put on your KTTW card so you don't have to carry around a mug. The mug is extra. If you book through AAA you will get a free soda mug (with the soda plan).

During sit-down lunches and all dinners, soda will be free and you don't need to purchase any plan.

Stands for Key To The World card. Used to open your stateroom door, lock/unlock the safe in your room, charge items you purchased while on board and gets you on/off the ship while in port.

we were on the three day and the mug was $15. all they had was Coke, Deit Coke and Sprite. What I did was bought one mug and they put a sticker on your room card. they will give you drinks in a regular class or your mug. Well the Mug is $5 more to make it $20. the $15 just gets you the sticker. any one in your party that has the card with the sticker can get the drinks. trade the card around and take turns getting the drinks with the one sticker.

My god daughter had the sticker on her card and when we sat down to eat lunch by the pool she would go up and order 2 cokes and give one to my daughter....I was really surprised that they would give her 2 at one time like that. One time I was with my daughter and I went up to order a coke, they just handed it to me and said "you have a sticker on your card?" I think I could have just said yes and not had a problem but I said no and paid for it....

thats kinda what I ment by you don't need a drink sticker for everyone in your party because I always got 2 drinks at a time with the one sticker.

On a previous cruise on HAL we got the unlimited soda package.
We all agreed, after seeing what was available for free at the beverage station, and at the buffet, and with dinner, that the soda package on DCL was a waste of our money.
We ate breakfast at Topsiders, and got OJ, all but one lunch we ate at Topsiders, and had the punch or milk, or coffee, and in the dining room, sodas are included so my kids has 2 with dinner.
The beverage station that is open like 7 am to 11 pm has great lemonade, ice tea, hot tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and milk, we never went thirsty.

I had a six pack of the bottles of Coke in my room primarily because I drink Coke first thing in the morning like most folks drink coffee. I usually drink lots of Cokes but decided not to get the soda package and really didn't miss it. With all the free stuff and my room "stash" I had plenty. I think I had a Coke with dinner one night because I wasn't in the mood for tea.

I really think it's a personal decision but I've heard lots of folks who got the soda package and then decided that they really didn't need it. FYI, sometimes they have canned drinks available at Topsiders. Those are NOT part of the soda package and you must pay for them.

With the soda program, you also can get club soda or tonic water. It's basically anything that comes out of their fountains.

Technically, you are supposed to buy a soda person for everyone who uses it. For our family, our kids spend most of the days in the kids programs where they can't get sodas. The first cruise, we booked with AAA, and I think each kid actually drank maybe 3 sodas total the entire 7 days. DH and I used it a lot more. We had brought our own alcohol on board, and he'd get coke or sprite for the mixer in the drink. I drank a lot of tonic water and lime because it was very refreshing.

Given our pattern from the first cruise, on our 2nd cruise, we bought 2 mugs (before the sticker program), and only one or two times did the kids drink what we had them put in the mug. I would have been willing to pay for their sodas, but since I had the mugs, they just gave me the drinks.

We also got 2 mugs and stickers on our 3 day wonder trip. To me they were worth it. We had a mug and sticker for each room, and usually got a mug filled and another soda at the same time. The mugs were great at the pools, and my DS's could get a soda anytime they were off on their own. I guess we cheated a little by having 2 stickers for 5 people but ...oh well....
I actually used the mug to make my own tropical punch drink one night with some mango rum we bought in Nassau and the free punch from topsiders. A nice big drink to sit on deck with and enjoy.

I actually just posted about sodas onboard...I just read on another board that starting June 12 on the Magic and June 13 on the Wonder, soda will now be complimentary onboard and at Castaway Cay and will remain complimentary at meals. Here is a copy of the post that I read:

"Beginning June 12 on the Disney Magic® and June 13 on the Disney Wonder®, AAA/CAA Travel

credit good toward merchandise, spa treatments, shore excursions and other onboard activities. This
benefit replaces the complimentary soda program, which will now be available to all Guests at the
24-hour beverage station on Deck 9 Aft and during meal hours at Topsider Buffet/Beach Blanket Buffet.
Complimentary sodas will also be available on Castaway Cay at Cookie’s Bar-B-Q and the adult-only
beach, Serenity Bay. Sodas will remain complimentary in full-service dining rooms.

The following AAA/CAA exclusive member benefits still apply:

Too funny - Just thinking about this, this morning. I never drink coffee; occasionally tea but like diet coke first thing in the morning. Were you able to order it at breakfast in the dining rooms?

Does this only apply if you booked the cruise through AAA!!! . I am not a fan of COKE. When we did the western cruise 2yrs ago, I was so happy to find PEPSI!!! in Cozumel. Talk about HEAVEN..

Please let me know.
Thanks.

I think onboard credit will only apply. It looks like soda free for all on the ship. If this is accurate.

PRaffen,
I always ordered diet Coke for breakfast, not a problem.

I mentioned in the other thread that there is no mention of room service or service at the bars, so it may not be totally free throughout the ship.

I also noticed that room service and bars were not mentioned...I wonder if the sodas offered at at the buffet and beverage station will be a limited selection. Maybe a full choice from room service and bar service? I have not yet been on a DCL cruise, so I don't know what the selection of soda onboard has been in the past.
