Sofa beds...how clean?

I wouldn't call myself a freak but I do have a lot of issues with regards to hotels and cleanliness especially when travelling with my kids. In the past my family of 4 have shared 2 beds as my kids were small enough. But now they will be 10 and 12 and I have been looking at a few hotel options that have two beds and a sofa bed as rooms with two bedrooms are blowing my budget. In general how clean are sofa beds? Are they changed/cleaned regularly? I can only imagine what goodies you find in a couch on the best of times. I am looking at Homewood Suites or Marriott's mostly. Please let me know what your experiences have been. I need to know if I am just being paraniod. Thanks! :scared:

We have stayed at many hotels with sofa beds because we have three kids. Our oldest always gets the sofa bed. They are generally not made when you get there, so the sheets can be found in a closet somewhere in the room. The bed itself is typically a thin mattress. I don't think they are any worse than normal beds to be honest in terms of cleanliness. However, they are not as comfortable. Kids usually don't notice. Sometimes my dd complains they are not comfortable. We usually bring a blanket from home for her to make it more comfortable. She did sleep on the sleeper at the B Resort in DTD and it was much better than the norm.

Some hotel chains will allow you to request a rollaway bed. Those are typically much better than the sofa bed. If that is an option you may want to consider it.

Thanks for your help! I think I'm actually happy to hear the sofa bed isn't made when you arrive so at least you can put clean sheets on. Does housekeeping usually make up the sofa bed the morning after as well as with the normal beds? That doesn't really matter to me either way...just curious.

We have just folded up the sofa in the morning, so housekeeping doesn't do anything with it. I would think if you wanted fresh sheets you could either leave it unfolded, or take the sheets off and leave them on the floor.

You'll need to take the sheets off and leave them on the floor. Otherwise they just ignore the sofa bed.

We're in the same boat. We have two boys (19 and 16) who don't like to share a bed. We've started getting rooms with 2 queens and a sofa sleeper. The sofa beds have been OK so far. Usually the older boy takes it, especially if it's in a separate area with it's own TV. A few times we've found it already made up with sheets and a blanket when we pulled it out. When we went to New York, the sofa wasn't made up and there weren't even any sheets in the room, so we had to call housekeeping to bring some. Last year in Las Vegas, we folded out the bed and found some interesting things behind it. It looked like a popped balloon (at least I hope it was a balloon!). DS19 slept on it and whole week and he was comfortable. For longer trips, we're starting to look for rooms where everyone can get an actual bed. We had a townhouse at Windsor Hills in 2013 for a 10-day trip and that worked out well. For a shorter trip next year, we're looking at the Staybridge Suites and the Best Western Premier Saratoga. They have 2-bedrooms and 2-bathrooms, which is also becoming more important for us.
