I read a post that suggested keeping the beds as a queen and having the second person sleep on the sofa bed. Since DD has already stated that she would not be the one on the sofa, I just wondered if this would be comfy for me or if I should just have them split to twins. PS We're coming from 4 nights on Heavenly Beds at the Dolphin!

The back of the sofa actually flips down and has a twin size bed inside the back. I laid on it when I went on a cruise with my kids and it was just as comfy as a regular bed. It is not your traditiona pancake thin sofa-bed. It is a real bed

Well, it's all based on personal opinions. I'm a 6' tall male who thinks the sofa bed is great!

But I've read in posts that others think it's not.

Not trying to stir any pots or stick my nose where it shouldn't, but why won't your DD sleep in the sofa bed?:confused3

I hated the sofa beds. I only slept on them 1 night of our two cruises (I got the pull down bed normally, which i liked :)) and the sofa bed was very hard and uncomfortable for me compared to the queen/twins beds and the pull down bed. Both times we went we had the bed separated into two twins for my mom and sister.

You could try the sofa bed one night (or just lay on it before you are going to bed, you can flip it around yourself) and if you don't like it have the two beds separated for you.

Personally, I'd get the two beds separated unless you like your beds VERY firm. My brother didn't seem to mind (not that he really had a choice, though).. he slept on the sofa bed every night of the two cruises except when we kind of all rotated beds one night because two of us were sick (with that.. wash your hands.. A LOT. I was OCD about it the 2nd cruise, and hey no one got sick lol)

I think you are refering to my post stating that the SRH suggested keeping the one bed together and the other party using the sofa and then my firends loving it and kept it that way the duration of the cruise. The reason the host suggested it is because the beds as a twin is actually more narrow than the sofa bed. She told them to try it that way the first night and if they decided to switch night two, then it can easily be done. They then opted to keep it that way as she found it very comfortable. As one of the other posted said, it is very comfortable as it is not just a thin matress of a sofa bed like at home or on RCCL. It is a real bed that has a real matress in the BACK of the couch. The bed folds down like a pita bread and you sleep on a true mattress. The pull down Murphy Bed in the Cat. 4 is more narrow than any of them as well, that I think someone else is refering to. Actually the sofa is thinner sitting on it than sleeping because the bed inside the back is really not felt when sitting on it. I say try it and if you do not like it, then switch it later. It sounds far more uncomfortable than it is. If you walked into a room for the first time with pull down service and had never seen the room before, you would not even know it was a sofa.:thumbsup2

DD is 24 and her choice would be to split the beds. This was my idea since atinkerbellmom had reported that the twins are narrower. Since she would be perfectly happy with the split, I wouldn't insist that she sleep on the sofa bed. Thanks for your opinion and no offense taken by your question.:)
Thanks for the feedback. I think I will try it the first night as suggested. Do I need to ask to have it made up or are there sheets in the room?

My kids alternated who slept on top and bottom each night and they
liked either of them equally. Definatley not a "Dorito bag bed" as my kids
would call it (sofa bed that has plastic wrap still on it) :lmao: I did try
each one out and really thought they were pretty comfy. :goodvibes

Teacher 510- If you try it for one night and want to split the Queen the next day to the two seperate beds, just inform your SRH that at turn down service to split them. It is not a big deal. Your SRH is "ALWAYS" in the hall all day, so they can be found easily and just tell him/her. Not a big deal to them. It will not be a problem at all. Happy Cruizennnnnn & take me with you.....:goodvibes

If you find the bed too hard... ask your room steward to see if they can get you one of the foam tops for the mattress... they MAY be able to do it. They did it for us on the Repo cruises, but they are limited on board... you might want to request from DCL before you take your cruise - have them write it on the ressie. It folds up with no problem and can be used all week.

my question would be, who is paying for the cruise??

I dont get kids today.. I really dont

I'm 25, and would rather sleep on the floor than let my mother sleep on the sofa! I don't think this is necessarily an age thing.

If it's really going to be that big of a deal, I say go for the twin beds.

I HAVE heard of people bringing Aero Beds with them - can't fit anyone else in the room, but some use it because they have bad backs, etc...

She is not making me sleep on the sofa!! I wanted to try it rather than sleep in tiny beds!! She is perfectly happy splitting the beds!! I'm sorry I mentioned it!! It was meant to be funny!!

I'm glad to hear the mostly positive reports on the sofa bed! I'll be sleeping on it at the end of next month!

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was really starting to feel bad for you. So glad to hear that she is a successful and responsible woman. Enjoy your cruise, no matter where you end up sleeping! :goodvibes
