Sofa Bed at SSR

First trip as a DVC family and I am concerned about the sofa bed in the one bedroom SSR room. I read that you can request an egg crate from housekeeping for the sofa bed. Is that true? Has anyone done it? I am not a big fan of firm mattresses. TIA!

Wow! That's a new one. Good question. :thumbsup2 Never heard of an egg crate bein available. My kids used the sofa bed in a 1 bedroom last year and had not problem. Of course, it's not as comfy as home. This year we're in a 2 bedroom but they'll still be sleeping on the pullout sofa. I'll be interested to see what other posters have to say on this.

Last week two teenage girls shared the pull-out at SSR. They loved it. In fact, when their father tried to nap their one evening they made sure that he was kicked back to the master bedroom when they were ready to sleep.

Now I laid down on it and I'm not sure I would find it as comfortable. My children aren't fans, but those who like firm mattresses will probably be happy.

I tried sleeping on the sofa bed last July. Can you say harder than a rock?! It wasn't comfortable at all for me. So, I just slept on the sofa cushions.

Others say they find them really comfortable. So, I guess it all depends on how firm you like your bed.

If they are the same as the beds at BWV (the type that flip forward from the top)... I agree they are hard (which for me is preferable)... but the best thing is there is no bar pressing into your back like a standard fold out hide a bed.

I asked about this last month because I had read complaints on the trip reports about the sofabed. There is a thread back in the ether somewhere. But the consensus was the beds at SSR are a great improvement over BCV and BWV, etc. and not really a problem. Don't know about getting an egg crate though.

The sofabed is always used on our trips and never any complaints!

I'm actually surprised that anyone can sleep on those beds. To me, it was comparable to laying on the floor, only elevated. Flat and hard. My sister and I had a studio at SSR and ended up sharing the queen bed instead of using the sofa.

The sofa beds at SSR are not your standard pull-out mattresses but a memory foam type material. There is no support bar stabbing you in the middle of the back at night, nor is the mattress constantly trying to fold up on you. I have used the sofa bed several times without any complaints. It is surprisingly comfortable.

The positive reports on these sofabeds makes me wonder if they just need a little "breaking in" to make them comfortable. D4D, you described the bed as a type of memory foam, which I would normally find fairly comfortable. When we stayed in an SSR studio, we were in a newly opened building. As a matter of fact, we were told that we were the first guests to stay in our room. I wonder if the "newness" of the sofa bed had anything to do with hardness. Quite honestly, it didn't feel like there was any foam at all, although I could see the padding. I guess I'll have to pull out the sofa bed at my next stay and see how it compares.
