we don't carry cocacola products at my restaurant. yet, it never fails i have the conversation numerous times a shift...

I live in TN and practically everybody down here calls it coke. Even if if its mountain dew, sprite, pepsi, etc. The only time we dont do that is if we are at a restaraunt or if we are asking somebody to go buy us a drink. Examlpe Conversation:

Person 1 (from north): I have a headache. I havent had any caffeine all day.
Person 2 (from South): Then go buy a coke or somethin!
Person 1: I don't like coke. BUt I'll go buy a Mountain Dew
Person 2: Thats what I said! Go buy a coke!
Person 1: I already told you, I dont like coke!

yep... true story. This went on for like 10 minutes before I finally realized that the girl I was talking to called everything soda.

Well I call it both because my mom came from Oklahoma and ahe grew up saying pop and my dad lived in Louisiana but he grew up in a proper family so he says soda so I call it just Coke mostly cause down south where I live people just say "Get me a Coke" and they'll get some kind of soda....

Yup! I looked at my county, and there's really no special thing. I looked around Memphis, and it was about 80-100% Coke. Both seem about right.

And when I'm in Montreal, people seem to call it Soda there too.

In my family it's like:

Mother (born in Ohio): Pop.
Father (born in Pennsylvania): Pop.
Me (born in California): Soda.
Sister (born in California): Soda.


We live in Texas now though and most of the people here call everything 'coke'.
