Soda or Pop

well today in my english class my teacher was explaining something and he said that only about 3 states (one of which is mine) calls coke and pepsi and sprite soda and other places call it pop. i have never heard anyone call it pop but i was wonderin do u call it soda or pop??

Oh, and sometimes I'll call it coke.
Even if it's mountain dew or something.

Soda, and from Florida. Actually we usually just say "Coke". But if not, we say soda. The only person here I've ever heard say "pop" was my aunt who used to live in Wyoming. But I don't think she still says it.

On the Coke thing....
Pepsi doesn't exist to me. If I go to a restaurant and ask for coke, I'm asking for basically, that drink. If they give me Pepsi, whatever, it's basically the same drink. They ask me if I mind... no I don't.
I could care less.
I've called pop Coke for ages now. I've kind of grown out of calling other types of pop Coke.

I call it soda, and I'm originally from NJ but I live in FL now. Around here most people just ask for a Coke.

I say it by the names.

if im at camp and its just soda, then i say 'Oo i want some soda pop"

Yeah, i used both.

Otherwise i say "Sprite, Coke, Pepsi" etc.

I call it soda. I've never heard it called pop by anyone except my great aunt. The word pop actually bothers me alot. Many older people call it tonic near here.

My dad and my aunt were from Iowa originally but moved to California. My dad calls it soda and my aunt calls it pop. My aunt now lives in Washington state. Anyone know which of these places calls it soda and which calls it pop?
