Soda and Fruit Juices Should be Banned

If we are going to go down this path, we should do it fully!

We should create a single approved nutritive substance. It should provide 100% of the daily recommended vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, etc.

It should be the only item we are allowed to eat and you should not be allowed to eat more than 2000 calories of it a day.

It would eliminate world hunger and greatly relieve pressure on the world health care system.
Is it by any chance...green? 📓

Has no one seen "Demolition Man" with Sandra Bullock and some guy named Sylvester Something-Or-Other? :D

Lenina Huxley: Ah, smoking is not good for you, and it's been deemed that anything not good for you is bad; hence, illegal. Alcohol, caffeine, contact sports, meat, bad language, chocolate, gasoline, uneducational toys and anything spicy. Abortion is also illegal, but then again so is pregnancy if you don't have a licence.

(There's a YouTube clip but it's got John Spartan violating that time's "Verbal Morality Statute" a few times, so I won't link it here.)

So, where does that slippery slope end?
The slope is really more of a roller-coaster these days. We've got provincial governments here using tax dollars to provide "clean" heroin, fentanyl and meth to addicts at medically supervised consumption sites for "harm reduction". Pretty sure all those substances have been banned at some point. :sad2:
This.
I have commented in the past here that I was astounded at what people posted was their usual childhood lunches. So much processed foods like twinkies back in the 70s but not for us!
::yes:: Totally. Those things were considered to be "fancy" and were very desirable.
If we are going to start banning foods, lets just eliminate all processed foods. Only sell meat, veggies, fruits & whole grains. These are the things we all should be eating.
Sounds remarkably like Cuba - they only eat what's provided for them to purchase through communist government outlets. (I recently returned from a vacation there and it was extremely eye-opening.)

No idea. My local grocery stores were mainly meat and produce. The processed food aisles weren't a big thing until around the mid-80s by me. Sure, there was some processed food. But it didn't really take off by until about 85. The big processed food that folks ate a lot of back then was cereal. And then the TV dinner became a thing.

My grandma cooked a lot of good food. It wasn't until she passed away that we ate more junk food.

For some of us, living longer while not enjoying the life we have isn’t worth it.

There are plenty of things that lower life expectancy. Do we ban them all?

This is a simple one with clear evidence that it's really bad for you.

I want to have an enjoyable old age. One of my friends in his 70s still hikes rim to rim of the Grand Canyon every year. I want to be active and enjoy my old age. That's the point. I don't want to suffer in old age.

I see people drinking sugary drinks across all income spectrums.

The lower income neighborhoods had a far higher consumption of soda than the wealthy neighborhoods. The consumption rate was almost triple. In the wealthy neighborhoods the consumption rate for coffee shacks was 10x higher. Guess which drinks they decided to tax? Those coffee shakes have way more sugar than a coke.

So are 100s of thousands of things. Are you banning all of them too?

But you missed the point. Some of us don’t care. Living a few less years, but enjoying the 80+ some odd years I’m alive is what I want. You don’t have to want it, but then you just don’t indulge in those things. Banning them is not the answer because you don’t want it. How does other people consuming them affect your life at all? There is a whole host of other reasons that expanding life expectancy for everyone would be a terrible idea, but it’s political…

And fwiw, I have relatives in their 90s who are happy, healthy & active and enjoyed it all.

How does other people drinking unhealthy stuff affect you living a long enjoyable life?

Nobody is making you drink anything you don’t want to drink.

That's the problem. Sugar isn't good in small amounts. Our colons can only handle 6g a day.

Here's how much is in a can of Coke:

I firmly believe this but people have to find their own way towards it. The government needs to adjust the stupid food pyramid. Coke needs to stop sponsoring health conferences. Nutrition education needs to include that excess sugar causes liver issues. Metabolic diseases account for the majority of health dollars spent in the US.

I can't handle fructose. Took me 25 years to find the right doctor to diagnose this. A half can of regular Coke will give me diarrhea within 30-40 minutes. I have been solidly Keto (makes it easier for me to avoid sugar) for over a year and have never felt better.
