I think banning things because "they're bad for you" is not the way to go. If people decide to drink soda or juice or smoke or drink, that's on them. I don't drink soda or juice by choice, but I would not like to have the choice taken away from me.

You could make the same argument about choice on issues that we can’t talk about here. I don’t agree with every law in this country but I respect everyone’s rights to legally do what they like under the law.

You could argue that almost any food item could be bad for you in some way. You would also have to consider portion size and there is no way to control that.

People have to make their own choices.

And on another point...the more you try to rule people's live through acres and acres of laws, the more they decide to ignore all laws b/c they can't possibly follow every one.

Thus, you destroy respect in law, and degrade rule of law until you end up in an utter mess of lawlessness.

That's how grocery stores were when I was a kid. But they quickly changed in the 80s.

That's the problem. Sugar isn't good in small amounts. Our colons can only handle 6g a day.

Not banned but the taxes should be very high to discourage consumption. Here a case of soda costs about $21 because they are adding a sugar tax to discourage consumption. We quit drinking soda when the tax was added a few years ago.

I know a young child with an ammonia processing problem.

She has permission to eat candy as part of her diet and the not so good things for the rest of us.

She must limit meats and proteins to live.

When my dad was dying of his colon cancer, at the end, he could only stomach Rolos, apple juice, and tea. I'll be damned if he couldn't have his apple juice.

Some folks don't have a colon (he didn't - he was on a colostomy for the last 8 months of his life).

And his required diet on that bag was everything you shouldn't eat and avoid everything you should (raw fruits and vegetables, nuts of all types, etc)...in fact, I'm pretty sure juice was one of the only ways he was allowed to eat fruits and veg...

The idea is to prevent chronic diseases. No one should ever get colon cancer. We don't screen for it enough or early enough. Our healthcare system isn't interested in us living for a long time. They're more concerned with treating stuff after it has occurred.

Once you have a chronic disease, then you're past the point of prevention. Now, it's just trying to have as good a life a possible before you die.

And Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer before he even reached the recommended screening age.
