What brand of socks do you buy that will LAST more than 3 months? I have a 9 year old boy and Hanes just aren't doing it anymore. EVERY pair I bought for Back to school has holes in the heel. We're talking 10+ pairs of socks I've thrown out.

Buy whatever brand you like that is sold at Sears - using the Kidvantage there [I think that is what it is called]. Sears use to guarantee all of their kids clothing including shoes and socks for a lifetime. If they get holes before they are grown out of they would replace them.

eta that I googled it and it appears they discontinued this program this past July. :=(

The brand that I am impressed with is Sonoma. I'm on my feet for at least 10 hrs a day, and my sonoma ones are about 6 months old, and still looks great.

I use gold-toe also (bought both brands at same time), but most of my gold-toe brand ones are very close to having holes in the heels and ball of the foot, where the sonoma ones are holding up well.

You are not alone! My ds also gets holes in the heels! I have changed brands a few times and I'm still looking.Right now he has a brand sold at kohls they where great last year but the new ones this year just got their first hole.So expecting the rest to do the same:rolleyes2

THIS and the fact that my kids lose socks are the reason I am in LOVE with the new mismatched socks craze. We just keep a big tub-o-socks now. If one sock gets holes or is lost at least we still got the other one. They could care less about wearing matching socks anyway so I gave up trying. One less thing off my mind.

I like Smartwool, but they are expensive, although you can find them on sale all the time.

Hanes are pretty poor quality. However, they are so cheap, you can just keep replacing them. You can find bags of socks for kids at a good price at places like Marshall's or T.J. Maxx.

Joe Boxer brands socks from Kmart are my DBFs favorite, can't speak to how well they'd be for a growing boy, but they do last quite a while for my DBF and he wears them for both work and everything else.

Mismatched socks is regional. MAN, I wish that would catch on here! I have a bag full of girly socks with no match. Every time I do laundry to see if I can find the match, and I get drips and drabs here and there, but I would LOVE this to catch on where I live.

Could you learn how to darn socks? That would save you a ton of money.

I've had to darn a few socks before, but like you, usually throw them out when they get big holes and have had plenty of use (ours last a lot longer than yours).

Have you looked at your child's shoes to see if there is something in them that's catching the socks?

My girls are into the mismatch craze right now too....we have a big Rubbermaid tub I throw my girls socks in when I take them out of the dryer..it's like playing go fish!

For quality socks I really like the under armour, seems to hold up well for dh who goes through socks rather quickly.

My sons both wear addas socks. They haven't worn out. They have disappeared though........borrowers maybe :)

My guys wore Hanes for years and now I have switched to Dickeys because the Hanes just didn't last anymore. It wasn't so much holes as it was the elastic at the top.

I only buy under armour too for dh and ds now. They used to go through socks every few months and we tried lots of different brands (hanes, adidas, gold toes, etc.) but under armour have definitely held out the longest. My boys like the heat gear socks. I started buying them a few years ago and they still have) them in his drawer, still hole free after all these years. Dh has big feet (size 15) and under armour is one of the few companies that make socks in a large size. It's about $16 for a 4 pack through their website, but check your local costco too. It's a few $ cheaper at costco.

I noticed that our hanes socks have a lot more holes also. Then I noticed that DS wears them on the concrete driveway, in the yard, and everywhere else. I have socks on my walmart list for today. :crazy2:

Gold Toe, Nike, Under Armour.

My 8 year old granddaughter is into the mismatched socks.

I agree with Adidias. We actusally buy ours at the Womens department at Kohls. You cannot feel the seams at all. I have been wearing the same socks for probably 3 years and still no holes at all. Both of my son's started wearing them this year and love them. I buy them the ones that say "Adidas" in either black or grey and they look like socks for men/boys. My 10 year old can wear them and my 13 year old -with adult 11 1/2 size feet wear the same ones. They tend to keep their shape too

Thanks for the suggestions. Another poster suggesting darning the socks which I was going to do, but the material around the hole was so threadbare that it would probably fall apart and be uncomfortable.
I am going to check out the Adidas and Under Armour as many of you suggested. Thanks for all your help!

:rotfl: Yep, my boys all have Hanes socks. The oldest has never had holes in his socks but the younger 3, who do as the quoted poster's son, end up with holes. The younger 2 probably each have about 2 dozen pairs so it'll be a while til we have to start tossing socks. Even then, I save the good one and eventually it gets a new mate! :rotfl:

Have you tried leading it?? My girls love wearing mismatched and have done it for soccer for awhile and now they do it with school too. While wearing pants and tennis shoes no one really sees the socks anyway so no big deal on mismatched.
