Socks! Socks! Socks!

Hanes quality has gone downhill the last few years. I thought it was just me that noticed it!

I have switched DD to Circo socks (target brand) and those last longer than hanes did.

I agree with Under Armor socks. They last a long time. But so do the C9's at Target. (Can you tell there's a Target 2 miles from my house?)

I spent a lot of money and bought my DS11 gold toe socks. SOme after a year have started getting holes in the heels and toes and I"m throwing them out. That's the longest he's ever kept socks. I hate spending money on socks but I'd rather buy quality once a year then crap all year long.

I've found that the wal mart socks just don't last. They seem to get holes after a month. And my kid does not go outside in his socks only, I"m a nazi about this. Now he's into the Nike Elite socks. Those were 15 bucks for a pair, they seem thick we'll see how long they last I hope for that price FOREVER!!

p.s. He got a few pairs for his birthday as gifts.

I agree with Adidias. We actusally buy ours at the Womens department at Kohls. You cannot feel the seams at all. I have been wearing the same socks for probably 3 years and still no holes at all. Both of my son's started wearing them this year and love them. I buy them the ones that say "Adidas" in either black or grey and they look like socks for men/boys. My 10 year old can wear them and my 13 year old -with adult 11 1/2 size feet wear the same ones. They tend to keep their shape too

I wear Adidas socks and they last forever. I also have some that are a few years old.

Joe Boxer brands socks from Kmart are my DBFs favorite, can't speak to how well they'd be for a growing boy, but they do last quite a while for my DBF and he wears them for both work and everything else.

This! My husband (a city service worker) and my dad (letter carrier) wear nothing but the Joe Boxer socks. They find them more comfortable and more durable than anything else they've ever bought. I also buy them for my 2 sons and they almost always outgrow them before they wear out. Even I've switched to them, as I stand at work all day on concrete floors, but I prefer the men's. The ladies socks are to thin for my feet to be comfortable.

regards

Cheap socks are a total waste of money; if they don't get holey the elastic gets shot.

I've had very good luck with JCPenney's house brand socks. They cost only a tiny bit more than the ones you can get at big box stores, but last a whole lot longer.

If you have a Ross Department store nearby they generally are cheaper with the nicer socks. We have gotten addidas and Puma brand socks there for a lot less than anywhere else.

I hate Hanes too, and I used to love them. Their designs are good, but the quality is horrible.

I've gone to gold toe over a year ago, none of them are worn out. I like small tight socks, so I get the boy's medium, and they always shrink back to normal size.

My bf wears them too, he's the one that bought me the gold toes, but they last only a year or two before the heel an ball wear out, but he's a big guy and nothing lasts forever with him.

I have found that 100% cotton socks like Hanes do not last. I have been buying more expensive Wal Mart socks that come in 3 packs that have some added stretch. My boys prefer these especially when they play sports because their socks stay drier. We also have some Nike socks that last a long time too.

Ha! I wanted to post and update because 14 months later, we are still on the SAME pack of UnderArmour socks that I bought shortly after posting this thread. I repeat.. we still have the SAME socks, I have not thrown out a SINGLE sock, not a single hole! Wow... UnderArmour for the win for sure!:cool1:

I'm impressed! Thanks for the update! I read this thread (but never posted to it) and I bought DS13 Under Armour socks. They definitely last longer than Hanes, but he does manage to get holes it them on the balls of the feet. I have no idea how he does this outside of sliding in them on the rug, but I never see him doing this. :confused3 I have since purchased Under Armour socks for DH and DS16 and the LOVE them!

I like Smartwool, but they are expensive, although you can find them on sale all the time.

Hanes are pretty poor quality. However, they are so cheap, you can just keep replacing them. You can find bags of socks for kids at a good price at places like Marshall's or T.J. Maxx.

I love smartwool (wear them exclusively in the winter) but mine all get holes after a few months (still love the warmth) I just buy white hanes for the guys in my house, when they're on sale...since they get destroyed pretty quickly,it doesn't matter what brand I get...and no brand holds up to their destructiveness:rotfl2: I just ordered a bunch of stuff from hanes.com on sale

My sons both wear addas socks. They haven't worn out. They have disappeared though........borrowers maybe :)

another +1 on the addidas socks. Our 12 year old twins wear them, meaning they get DOUBLE the wear, and they seem to be lasting. I got them at Kohls, they are black and crew length, like a little taller than the ankles. We have had them since the summer and they all still look brand new.

I bought my son some Adidas socks for running and they have held up well. They are good for keeping sweaty feet dry. For myself, I love New Balance. I bought a pack in Vegas. Wasn't prepared for all that walking so had to buy some gym shoes and socks. That was back in 2011 and I still have 2 pairs of the 3. The others were lost. I love them. My husband and son also wear the Joe Boxers.

I wonder if Under Armour has women's socks in black? I have the same problem.

THIS and the fact that my kids lose socks are the reason I am in LOVE with the new mismatched socks craze. We just keep a big tub-o-socks now. If one sock gets holes or is lost at least we still got the other one. They could care less about wearing matching socks anyway so I gave up trying. One less thing off my mind.

I love the mismatched socks trend too!

The socks I got at Kohls are lasting pretty good.
