I'm not sure that the assumption that Disney does not get to pocket the difference between a Summer Fun Pass and other, higher priced tickets is entirely correct. It may well be that guests who save money with the Fun Pass will have more disposable income than they otherwise would have available to spend inside the parks on food, souvenirs, etc. Also, if the availability of a reduced price Fun Pass is a factor in one's decision whether or not to visit Disneyland at all (a likelihood not be discounted in these difficult times for many families), isn't Disney better off financially by having guests purchase a reduced priced ticket than not having them come at all? Just some food for thought.

Most folks do not make that decision over a few bucks if they are set on going to Disney. Just like many folks will not give up their $6 latte's when they go to $7. And trust me, there are jobs out there, many people just do not want to do them.

I've been visiting WDW twice a year since 1996 for 8 days at a shot. Disney gets plenty of my money. I have no problem trying to save a few bucks here and there. I will be purchasing 2 day park hoppers because i do not want to run into any problems.

I think we're talking about a little more $ than the difference between a $6 and a $7 latte. And all UNBIASED economic souces estimate that for every open job position currently available, there are FIVE applicants!

I does not make a diff if there are 5000 applicants, it is going out there a doing what needs to be done to get the job. I just checked the LA area ads and there are 1000's of jobs posted and they get filled by people who go after the job. Where I live the economy has not been that bad and there are lost of job openings. Currently I and my DGF work two jobs a piece. It pays our expenses and for college for 3 young adults. We do what we have to do. A lot of people do not want to work that hard or take lower wage jobs, a fact of life. If you multiply the latte charge out over a years worth of latte's I am sure it will cover the minor difference in the tickets. Just my point of view.

ITA, Jack. I bumped into someone from my childhood a few months ago. He is a musician and is having a tough time right now making ends meet, but is following "the dream" for which I applaud him. I asked him about taking a part-time job doing anything (retail, whatever) just to bring in a little extra cash to bridge the gap. He told me, "Well, the problem there is," and I quote,"I'm sort of a job snob." I didn't understand what this meant. Upon asking, he explained, "I am sort of, well, I don't want to do anything below me." Sigh. I didn't really know what else to say. Times are rough right now for many, but people have to be willing to help themselves a little in order to make things "good."

We were told by a ticketbooth employee, the people you purchase your tickets from, that a So. Cal resident can purchase So. Cal discounted tickets for visiting family members, but they would need to be traveling with the group.

It's really up to you if you want to try it out or not, whether or not your So. Cal member will be with you. We have annual passes and live in Northern California, however we have used the supermarket So. Cal discounted passes and have never been carded at Disneyland or the supermarket. I'm sure there's lots of tourists from other countries or even tourists from here who don't quite understand the discounted ticket policy yet still purchase them, I think the worst that could happen is that they would explain that it's for So. Cal resident use only and they would have you upgrade to an appropriate ticket.

The Summer Fun passes can be also be found at: Von's, Ralph's, Albertson's - these are all supermarkets.

I just got back from a Disneyland trip, went for 3 days, 10 of us were using the Summer Fun passes, not one person was asked for ID during the 3 days - we had a 3 year old with us who also had a pass but not once did they ever ask for his admission so we actually ended up with a left over unused pass. The first day that happened was a total mistake, things were so chaotic with the stroller that my cousin forgot to present his pass yet she was never asked for it, and the remaining two days were curiosity tests to see if they would ask, guess he still looks under 3.
