For those of you who have been on it,what is it like?
Im going in May and considering of riding it maybe,But the only thing is I am afraid of heights:scared: ,so should I still try it out?:confused3

I read in my two guide books that the hang gliders lift 45 feet off the ground,is that true?

Thanks=):hippie:

My DD12 just rode it this past February. She is terrified of any thrilling attraction. We finally talked her into it. She sat on the bottom row. It only goes up around 8-10 feet. She really enjoyed the ride. She didn't mind the feet in her view. She is willing to go again, on the bottom row.

I like riding on the top row. No feet and a great view. You might be at that 45 foot above the floor, I'm not sure. But, you are seatbelted in.

Well I don't know about the 45 ft thing because I haven't measured :goodvibes but it does seem like you get lifted pretty high in the air, although I never thought of being scared (and I'm scared of heights too.)
You basically just sit up there and watch a movie that makes you feel like you're flying with some slight moving of where you're sitting.
Its not bad at all IMHO though.

I am terrified to DEATH of heights, but I love this ride. It is like hang gliding. What I really like about it is, if there is anything that makes you uncomfortable or you are not enjoying the view, you just close your eyes.

It is a large 3D (curved inward) projection screen that makes you feel like you are really hang gliding over California. I was very apprehensive the first time I rode it, but I eased up after about 30 seconds and I love it. It is one of the best attractions in EPCOT.

Oh Okay thanks.Bec ause I asked my brother who is good at measurements lol,and he's like thats tall. And it got me all scared:p

Hmm maybe I shall try it on my May trip. That make's 2 new rides to try:goodvibes

Oh Okay cool. I rode on a ferris wheel and got stuck and was insection 400 at a place for a concert,I guess I can survive 45 feet:p

Now I can't wait!CHYEA!:cheer2:

I rode it a few times. The only time that was kinda strange feeling was when I was at the very end seat - I believe in the first row. When I looked down I could see the edge of the theatre and whatever was on the floor!

I have a fear of heights and was nervous the first time I rode this, so I closed my eyes when they lifted the seats. That helped me. I LOVED this ride and ended up going a 2nd time! I close my eyes on the way down too!

Ohh Thats strange...So overall you liked the ride?

I too am petrified of heights and LOVED this ride, rode it several times last year and dragged my son on it this year (he is 14 and has no fears, but loved it). It is a great ride, I would NOT allow your fear of heights to scare you here, somehow, it didn't bother me at all. Yet, I cannot take the drop on Splash Mtn.

Haha okay, well I have been on Splash Mountain,A ferris wheel(and got stuck at the top might I add) and I was in section 400 at a concert. So I guess If I amde those, this will be a breeze huh?

:hippie:

I am a bit afraid of heights also and I loved the ride. I rode it at least 5 times during my May trip and I was on all 3 levels. I will admit that I had to hold on everytime during the ride. :rotfl2: If you are concerned, ask to be in row 3. Row 3 is the lowest to the floor so that you won't be as high. (accordingly row 1 is the highest). My recommendation is to definitely try it, but if you are concerned, ask for row 3 at least the first time that you try it.

Good luck !

Rode it last week and was a wreck because of all the warnings they give which basically scared me witless. I kept worrying throughout the whole thing that something scary would happen and that we would pitch forward somehow, but nothing scary ever happened. When I wasn't being a basket case i really enjoyed it.

Wish I could go back now that I realize how unscary it really is. It would be so much more enjoyable. Take it from me, a true scaredy-cat, it was in retrospect completely mild and very enjoyable. It was only the uncertainty that was alarming.

Hopefully the blood flow will soon be restored to my mother in law's arm, I had her in a death grip....

DW is afraid of heights also and she finally gave it a try, and now its her favorite ride. There are three different levels to sit, you could ask the CM to make sure you sit at the lowest level for your first ride, to see how you make out. The next time request the second level and work your way to the highest level . You may just list this ride as your favorite also. Enjoy the ride.

If you are that afraid of heights, I would tell a CM and ask to be on the lowest tier. We were on the lowest, and I was okay....nervous but okay. My DS who is horribly afraid of heights, held on tight and was shaky but again, he was okay. Or just focus straight ahead where you can't really tell how high you are and don't look down ! Cool attraction, you should at least try it once.

Soarin is awesome!! It's one of the best rides! If you can be stuck on a Ferris Wheel and go on Splash MTN, then you can do it:thumbsup2 Have a nice trip:)

Thank you everybody who posted!I will let my mom know(because she's scared of heights aswell) and hopefully she'll want to come on now too. It seems very cool now that I know there are lower levels.:)

Thanks everybody who replied again!

I know this is a stupid paranoid mommy question but How good are the seatbelts/safety bar or whatever? My 4 yo meets hight req, but just worried going that high and not being in the seat securely?

They are similar to seatbelts on TT where they lock in, and I believe that they have safety bar/belt that goes between the legs of little ones.

I'd also like someone to compare this ride to Peter Pan (height of ride vehicle off the ground). I have adjusted to PP but it helps that there is something for my feet to touch instead of just dangling.
