Soarin': What's the big deal?

Ok, I know many people might disagree with me, and that's ok, but really... what is SO fantastic about Soarin' to have such long waits? I rode this last year, and although it was a soothing landscape movie in nice air conditioning, I didn't really find it all that great, definitely not worth spending nearly 1 1/2 hours of my precious Disney time between waiting and riding. The movie is full of strange choppy edits between scenes, the motion is similar to any other simulated-motion ride, except your feet are hanging in someone's face, and my seat constantly felt like it was about to tip me out. Besides the fact that the ride is new, I don't really see a whole lot going for it. Am I the only one?? And don't even get me started on the name, I mean c'mon... "Soarin'?" Is this really the best the Imagineers could come up with?

I personally love Soarin'! I think the wait is because there is only one ride.....unlike the coasters that have several trains.....you could always FASTPASS the ride and ride other things while waiting for your ride time to come up....that's why FASTPASS was created...

Diff strokes for diff folks, I guess. We loved the feeling of flying and the infused scents. Had no one's feet in our faces as we rode in the front row both times.

My son liked to try to "kick" the people off the mountain.
We liked it. Is it exciting? Not really, but it was fun. BTW, I did not and would not wait in a 3 hour line. NEVER...unless it was to talk to GOD.
No ride at Disney is worth that long of a wait.

Let me clarify... I didn't hate the ride, I can't even say I disliked it. As Randy Jackson would say, it was just okay for me. I just don't see why so many people love it so much and think it is so fantastic. This is only my opinion, and I am wondering if I am the only one who simply doesn't see the huge appeal.

:wave2: I agree with you, it was just ok, well honestly I did not like it. I rode it once that's enough for me.
My DH however loves it so he goes on the single rider and I sit outside and have a drink and meet the nicest people while waiting for him.

Maybe it was because I was in the front row, but I really felt like I was soaring, and it made my heart swell wityh peace and happiness. yeah, yeah, I know that sounds corny, but it's just such a "feel good" ride.

However, I've only done it once, and I'd do it again, but I'm not sure how many more times. It might get "ho hum" quickly.

Bear in mind it is a relatively new ride for WDW, and as such, many people have not ridden it yet and want to, unlike the rides that have been there for years.

I liked Soarin' a lot! I have only ridden it once and we were in the front row.
If you are not in the front row do you really have peoples feet in your face?
That would ruin the ride for me! :guilty: I think it is a nice, relaxing change of pace from some of the other rides, but there are not too many rides that I would wait 2 or 3 hours for! :goodvibes

Can you wait for front row seats or do you have to take whatever is availible. Also how many can sit together in one row?

I think it's a personal experience in a way that's different from other "thrill" rides. I rode it in its original form at DCA, and dragged my partner back to DL a few months later so I could go again. I could barely wait until we went to Epcot the first time so I could ride it there.

I like the feeling of, well, flying you get, or can imagine, while on the attraction. Since I'm a Western boy and know California very well, I also like flying over places I've been many times. (I always look for our favorite Palm Springs resort when flying over the golf course for instance, and I love the view of San Diego harbor.) I listen to the music when I need to calm down.

I get why not everyone finds it as special as I do, but for those of us who do, our devotion probably approaches worship.

My family like soarin' alot. We loved when it went through Disneyland. I suppose because we have never been there. We used the FP and had a very short wait.

I am riveted by Soarin, but only because I'm terrified of heights. And honestly, after a couple times it's not scary anymore because I've managed to convince myself I'm not going to die and so the thrill is sort of gone. But I'd still make other people go if they'd never been before.

Hi
You can ask for the front row seats. You might have to wait a few more minutes, but it is so worth it. We did this 2 times last year, and I don't think I would like it as much if I had feet in my way. Going again in August and now December and will ask for the front row again. I'm not sure how many can sit together in one row. I think it might be about 6 or 8. Maybe someone else will know. Have Fun!!

Soarin is one of our must do's.

I really like soarin but I can understand your feeling. I felt the same way about Test Track the first time I went on it. Couldn't believe that people would actually stand in line for hours to ride it. It was OK but not great. The more I ride Test Track, the better I like it but if I don't have a fast pass or am not a single rider, I can skip it.

No, I'm right there with you. My DH and I rode the DCA version last summer, and it just didn't do it for me. But I was in a snit that day, so I decided it might have just been me. We rode it again at WDW in January, though, and I had the same reaction. Pretty, with nice music, but just not a must-do--especially with a long line. Being in the first row does add to the "realism" of the experience, but it still wouldn't make me want to rush right over to the ride. It probably would mean more to me personally if the Disney folks had made a new movie to depict flying over the Florida landscape. That seems to make more sense for a Florida-based theme park. But I guess the Disney number crunchers made that call...LOL.
