If we want to get both of these done in the morning hours, what is the best strategy? Ride both standby, one immediately following the other? Get a FP for one? And in which order?

Alternately, anyone have recent experience with either of these during evening EMH?

There are many techniques.
Each can work to varying degrees, depending on crowds and timing.

Here are two popular methods:

Ride Soarin' standby.
Grab a FP for TT.
Ride Mission:SPACE, standby, while waiting for TT FP to come due.

-or-

Grab a FP for Soarin'.
Ride TT standby.
Return to ride Soarin' when FP comes due.

If you don't have a problem doing it, you could ride TT single rider. Much less wait time, and because of the odd numbered seats on each row (3), it is usually much quicker than EE and RnR single rider.
Therefore, you could grab a FP for Soarin'.

Now do I understand this correctly: Since TT has a interactive queue and delay through the standby line to start, my party of four could (at RD) walk thru the single rider line and get on right away? I want to be certain that this since we do want to ride together (8 year old).

Your group of four will likely be able to ride in the same car by using the single rider line very soon after park opening. However, it's not guaranteed; people DO trickle in from the standby line and they are seated first and you'd be expected to fill in the empty spaces. But I'd say your chances are very good.

For the OP, what works for DW and me: Obtain FP for Soarin', ride Soarin' standby, rush to Test Track single ride line, ride TT two or three times in SR line with little wait. By that time Soarin' FP window should have started so obtain another FP for TT or Mission Space or Soarin'. Then ride Soarin' with original FP.

I would not count on being together....you could be, but if you do not want your 8 year old alone, then I would get in the stand-by line or get a FP. Most 8 year old's really would be ok not being next to you but you know your child best. They tell you all through the single rider line that you will be separated, and most of the time you are! If you do it first thing in the AM, I would just do the regular line for the first ride and after your son is comfortable and you had that first ride together, you can do Single Rider line.

If you want to be guaranteed to ride together, I agree, you may not want to do SR line.
But I'd say your chances are good you may be in the same car.
My wife and I grabbed FP for Soarin' at Park opening, rode TT in the SR line twice and we were seated in the same car both times. The design portion of the standby has no affect on your ride through.
We then did SOAT and Mission Space before heading back over to Soarin.

Good luck and have fun!! :thumbsup2

At least in January, for the first 15-30 minutes after park open, CMs outside TT were loudly proclaiming that groups could go through SR and still be seated together. I got the impression they wanted to spread the TT riders a bit since those that went through the standby queue would be slowed down by the design process and cars would go out empty until the standbys reached the load area.

We did evening EMH this Tuesday, and I never saw Soarin get below 70 minutes. It could have gone a little lower right before park close, but we were there until about 10 min till close. We had ridden twice that day with fastpasses, and were not planning on riding again due to the wait. There was some rain that came through though and a lady who was leaving gave us her fast passes, so were were able to ride a third time! :yay:

We like to get FP's for Soarin', then get in the short standby line right away. We then go over to ride TT and come back for a second Soarin' ride later.

Thank you, I think I'll ask the CM upon approach.

Definitely get FP's for Soarin'. We only go during the off season, and even during this time, Soarin' still has quite a wait. I wish I was on that ride right now...

I usually grab fast passes for Soarin and then go ride Test Track going back to Soarin when my fastpass time comes up.

We always like to ride Soarin twice so we send our fastpass runner to get fastpasses for TT (usually return time will be around 9:30-9:40) while the slower kids-laden part of our group heads straight to Soarin. When the fastpass runner catches up to us we all go through and do standby for Soarin together. By the time we are done with Soarin we usually only have only a few minutes before the TT fastpasses are up. Once that happens we grab those Soarin fastpasses, head to TT to use our fastpasses for that. Then we do mission space and whatever else we have time to do before returning to The Land to do Soarin again. Usually it works out for us to have an early lunch at Sunshine Seasons right before or after our Soarin fastpasses (depending on the return time). Then we have the rest of the afternoon (or until rest time in the summer months) to do the non-headlining attractions.

We usually ride Soarin', grab a FP for it to ride later, and then head to TT. The line at TT is still manageable at that time.

Question - we have not ridden the new TT yet. If you have FP do you not get to design your own car? And if not, are you really missing out or is it more just of a thing that's nice because it keeps you busy in line?

One note. When we did Fastpass for TT, we did not get the card to design a car. The CM pushed us past that point of the queue. We did not enjoy the experience because we didn't have any reference point during the ride and we didn't get to use the card at the end for the games (since we didn't have one). We will not FP Test Track anymore.

I have heard that sometimes FP folks do get to design (they have some station in the queue) but I wouldn't risk it.

Another Epcot question, I'll just add it in here rather than creating another thread...is there an actual rope drop when World Showcase opens at 11?

I'm asking for the purpose of character meets...I want to make our first stop in WS China & Mulan! She's DH's fave.

You won't be able to go beyond Norway (or France from the other side) until 11:00a.

One more...evening EMH during Food & Wine - will the kiosks still be open? What about shopping? I can't remember if we were there during EMH last trip...
