Soarin Seatbelt Locks?

Okay, I'm a little uncomfortable asking this since I've ridden Soarin many times. Here's my question:is the seatbelt locked so that you can not unfasten it until the ride concludes? I've never tried to unfasten myself while riding so I wouldn't know. DD will be 4 and FINALLY big enough to ride during our May trip. But, being the over protective mother that I am, I started playing out the what can go wrong scenarios for the various rides. It occured to me that she might try to unfasten her seatbelt (not because of terror but just because she can - this is a newly discovered ability in the car) and fall.

Does anyone know for sure?

Hi,

I'm pretty sure, that Disney would not make their seatbelts unlockable while you are off the ground, it just doesn't seem safe. I am thinking this way since there may be smaller kids who like to fool around with seatbelts and such, so they don't want them to fall out.

Don't know FOR SURE, but I am pretty sure. Isn't it an over the head and shoulders type restraint?

If I remember correctly they are five point harnesses but I'm not 100% sure. But do they lock into place for the whole ride is the thing I'm really concerned about - not the wiggling out.

Again, I don't think that they would leave the seatbelts unlocked on a ride where you are above the ground.

I would imagine that they are like the locks on TT...you know how you get done with the ride and try to unlock the seatbelt but it won't unlock until you hit a certain point? Certainly it would be the same.

Like on all the other rides. I have yet to see any safety bar, or seat belt that would unlock by pulling on it.

They are locked. If you try to take it off at the end of the ride it won't come off until they release all of them.

I assume they're locked. My middle dd 5 had to have a strap between her legs too that hooked to the seat belt. She was so into the ride, she would not have though of unhooking herself.

They are locked throughout the entire ride and you can't undo them. Small children have the belt passed thru an additional loop for added safety.

There are no 5 point or over the shoulder harnesses for Soarin'

I agree that they are locked while the ride is in operation. They are not "five point" or "over the head and shoulders" type restraints. They are simple lap belts. If a passenger is shorter than a certain mark on the seat they have to loop the lap belt through another loop that comes up between their legs. It seems pretty safe to me.

Not only can I confirm that they are locked but that they cannot be removed until the CM unlocks the entire row. Last time, they were delayed in getting to our row and no one could unlock on the entire row. It was an interesting discovery.

Oh, and the CM has to unlock it from behind the row. No one can unlock for you.

Which reminds me, I've seen them go to each row and press something that locks the seatbelts.

I'm positive that they're locked. I know this because I was a bad patron and tried to unbuckle before they hit the release at the very end of the ride and could not! So never fear! Your DD is safe!

I've done the same thing. Just a little quick to unbuckle as we got back down to the floor, and I was foiled! They're definitely locked.

Not only are they locked until the end of the ride, but there are sensors to indicate to the CMs who isn't properly belted in before the ride starts. Not to worry!

Correct.

Not only that... the attraction is designed to not begin operation until all the belts are buckled and locked.

The LED indicators at the top of each seat tell the CM's which belt is not locked, so they can assist in getting the belt securely connected so that the ride-system can start-up.

Here's a link to the DIS page about Soarin' which includes one picture that shows the ride seats. You can see the seatbelts (no shoulder harness or 5 point belt as has already been posted). You can also see a kind of light tan loop on the first seat. That's the strap that the belt can be put thru for small children or extra security that other posters mentioned.

And as a cast member who works at Soarin, I can definitely confirm that you canNOT undo the seatbelts during the flight. In fact, once you buckle the belt if you need to undo it (while everyone is loading) we have to release it.

Riders who don't reach the red marks on the seats (the Soarin logo design) need to put the seat belt through the loop first and then buckle. If a child doesn't have theirs done, then we need to release the belt so it can be re-done correctly before we can launch the flight. Safety is the top priority!!
