Soarin' SB+ test...Fail

You mean they didn't put out a press release with those figures? I'm shocked. SHOCKED I tell you!

Putting out those kind of numbers hurts the stock and year end bonuses. :rotfl2: Can't have that happening!!;)

Pluto there is no reasoning with you. These are all reputable sources stating the same thing it is OVER BUDGET! The original amount slated was 500 million dollars. Bob Iger CEO of Disney stated that it was indeed OVER BUDGET and was concerned about it. Now I am not able to obtain an exact number, but we know for sure it is OVERBUDGET and the parks could have had as few as 6 and as many as 20 new attractions with this money by what is being reported the whole thing is OVER BUDGET by! If these sources aren't good enough for you than find me a source that says otherwise. It is not unreasonable to draw the conclusion that the money spent could have been spent on attractions for the park, and with just the 500 million they spent the could have built 5 expedition everest's, and yes it was reported that it cost 100 million to build it . Of course who knows if you would believe those sources.
Sometimes there is no point. You can lead a horse to water and so on...

This is totally off the wall. But I was thinking about if they handled attactions reaching capacity the way they handle park capacity with the phased closing? That would be worse than the standby tickets. Though it would sure give more incentive to staying onsite or being AP.

I thought of that too. (Headline: Soarin' now in a Level 3 closure!) ;)

It also occurs to me that if Standby re-opening is an unknown factor, then it is similar to when we encounter a ride that is down due to mechanical issues or weather issues, etc. Will it re-open at all? If so, when will it re-open? Should we give up, or should we stick around and wait it out? What to do, what to do?

Pondering these decisions always makes for spoaneity and magic, doesn't it? ;)

I think it might be a bit less magical, however, if (a) we observe people pouring into the FP+ lane while the ride is "down" and (2) we can't shrug it off as acts of nature or other events beyond Disney's control.

Again, you claimed that they were WAY over budget. I just asked you the simple question of how much over budget they were.

I guess the answer is you just don't know.

I appreciate you clearing this up for me.

Let me clear it up. Go back and listen to the disunplugged Podcast. Pete said it was over budget by quite a large number, but I didn't write them down, so go back and educate yourself.

I've read through most but not all of the posts on these threads, so if this was already mentioned I apologize. What were the Disney suits thinking when they made all of the SB lines to make them interactive and fun? Most recently, Winnie the Pooh, Little Mermaid, even 7DMT?? It seems that Disney execs are just all over the place with their thinking, and they have no idea what direction they're going in. If they truly are going to the SB+ system, then what a waste of time and money on all these awesome SB lines.

Personally (and I may regret saying this) some of the fun is the waiting and anticipation of getting on the ride. Granted, I don't want to wait 2 hours for a ride (I would if I had to), but I'd wait an hour and enjoy some of the details in the lines. That's part of the fun I think, and we're Disney vets so we've been through the lines many times, but one of the best parts of Disney is the details, and they do a great job of that in the SB lines.

ETA: If Disney goes the way of completely removing the option to even standby, they will lose a LOT of loyal fans. I love Disney, but I refuse to pay the admission they are asking with the chance of not getting on the rides I want to in the park. That's insanity. I hope Disney is listening.

Excellent point! And a great illustration of how reactionary all of their thinking seems to have become at this point.

NEED MORE FIXES!

Oh wow. I didn't read the A&E standby thread because we just got back and DD met them.
I am sitting here thinking that riots may break out. Just think, in the summer time, people are hot, tired, hungry, spent a lot of money on this maybe once in a life time vacation and their precious peach can't met A&E in a standby line. Pure stupidity on Disneys part.
I was lucky enough to score a 9:10am fp for DD8 and I, DH and DS had no interest in meeting them so I booked them for Splash same time. I told DH that if I couldn't get a FP we would split up, DD and I would wait the million hours to meet them. Here is my why:Because she wants to. Plus, right now they are real to her. I LOVE that childhood fantasy Disney offers. In another year or two, she will know it's a job for the character. And that makes me sad. How dare Disney to take that away. Whether it's a meet and greet or a ride we pay money to stand in line AND get the reward at the end. Should be no strings attached.

Leave standy lines ALONE.

I believe the thinking behind interactive SB lines is that the 'suits' know they will be long, and it is a way to distract guests as they wait in line, or at least the impatient kiddies...

If I'm going to wait in line in a giant attraction that has zero cell phone reception, a little entertainment makes the wait a little worth it....

flix: "The sky is blue"

plutomars: "It absolutely is not! You have no proof whatsoever that the sky is blue!"

flix: "Here's a picture I just took for you - see, the sky is blue"

plutomars: "That is not blue! That is periwinkle! Once again someone on here making statements they cannot back up as fact!! Go find me another picture, I'm sure you Photoshopped that one anyway.... sky hater"

The point is that while people on here like to make definitive statements with a great deal of certainty but when you press them on it, they cannot back it up.

You mean definitive statements like the New York times and the Orlando Sentinel and former VP for next gen experiences at Disney have stated. All of the above sources slate the cost of the project at over a billion dollars. They all have stated it is well over budget. Nick Franklin who got canned over it said the same thing. Like attendance numbers Disney isn't about to release a true number, they are sneaky that way. So going by what it has cost and Bob Iger admitted over 1 billion in the NY times that is 10 count them 10 attractions. These are facts , if you choose to ignore them so be it. I know another fact when I last ran a poll on here asking which you would rather have the mme and fast plus or new attractions almost 90% of disboarders made the choice for more rides. End of story!!

IMO, FP+ and the interactive queues haven't been as successful as Disney wanted and they're just adding band-aides and hoping something works. It reminds me of the government who never repeals a law or a tax, instead they just amend their current screw-up.

I just wonder how much more money and time Disney is going to waste on FP+ and SB+ before they realize they're SOL.

Not sure if this has been mentioned on here yet, but on another thread, someone noticed that the FP screens have recently been changed ... When there are no more FPs, it now says "FP Distribution Has Ended for Selected Day" instead of being shaded out

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3310418

I seem to remember before if the FPs were all gone, in addition to being shaded out, it would say Standby Available. Or maybe I am imagining that? Does anyone remember that?

Anyway, it's interesting that the screens changed this week and if it is related to these tests.

And yet people make definitive statements about it all yet really do not know.

Now that is shocking if you ask me.

If you read Disney's financials and listen to analyst calls and investor presentations, the information is all there. But all of that takes time...you have to be at the right place at the right time, paying attention to what's being said. You could go back and pull pieces out from the last 5 years or so to see what the original budget appeared to be, and what has been spent to-date. It's not all laid out in an easy to digest format...Disney is never going to spoon feed bad news...but it's all there if you take the time to actually analyze what is said (and has been said) vs. trying to defend the person whose Kool-Aid you're drinking.

The rumor now is when there are no more fps the screen will say "zonk" and give the audio zonk sound!:rotfl2:

Perfect. :)

To quote a famous movie line "You can't handle the truth" may work in this situation!

Being unable to ride for these unforeseen reasons is one thing....I think people being told you can't ride because the company you paid thousands of dollars to come and ride their rides tells you sorry WE are not letting you ride this one is a whole other can of worm

I think the rest of that went "and if he doesn't drink shoot him and get a smarter horse"
