Can someone shed some light on the Soarin refurbishment. I was under the impression that this attraction was getting a new video in California but a new theater in Florida. So I was surprised to see Touring Plans listing it to be closed from January to June. We are planning to book a trip tomorrrow for May but Soarin is my Mom's favorite ride and this will be her last trip. Thoughts??

The only thing I can shed light on is that in WDW they are building a third theater (which they need) to accommodate more guests in the attraction. They too will be getting a new movie therefore the refurbishment is going to last quite a long time (not sure how long exactly). As for the one in DCA, I know they are getting a new film as well, but I do not know how long the actual refurbishment is going to last and if they are planning on doing anything else to the ride. We have a trip to DLR planned for June and I am hoping that it will be back up and running by then...that too is my favorite ride.

I'm not as familiar with the DL refurb, but in Florida, in addition to building the third theater and installing the new movie, I think they're also converting to a digital projection system. Assuming they're doing the same in Anaheim, I imagine that is what may be taking up a large portion of the refurb time.

I may be alone in this, but I really wish they had added a new and different attraction at Epcot instead of just adding more capacity to Soarin. DCA is a testament to what a wide range of family attractions can do for evening out demand. (I feel the same way about adding the 3rd track to TSMM).

There was some talk about this in the "Ride closures in April" thread, but no one really knows what is going on with Soarin'. The dates Touring Plans has listed match exactly with the closure dates for WDW, which is kind of suspicious. I think at this point, the re-opening date is one of those "TBD" type of things and the June date is just a place holder. In that April thread, no poster lists a re-opening date of Jan 23, so we shall see what happens.

So am I reading this correctly, Soarin' will be closed in both DL and WDW in the beginning of next year. We will be visiting both theme parks in February and we're counting on catching Soarin' at least at one park.

Its not a for sure thing how long the on in DL is going to be closed, it was just closed for quiet a while so for it to be closed again for that long would be kinda weird

Soarin had a physical refurb earlier this year. I'm pretty sure we were hearing that all they needed to do to switch the show over was replace the video hard drives and tweak the swinging patterns and scents and that that would only take a couple of weeks, because they had already done all the hard work for the switch when the ride was down in the winter. So I would think Jan 4-22 was a more accurate assessment.

Cal-pie beat me to it! I noticed that today as well. Doesn't make a difference for my trip, but I'm sure people will be thrilled if it is that short of a refurb.

Oh no, we had to change our December trip at the last minute and now won't be there until 1/4. Soarin is one of our favorite rides. Is it really planned to be closed on the 4th? I'm a little sad about this. :(

Is there an official Disneyland page that lists refurbs and closures?

Thanks for the info Cal-Pie. Where do you find refurb. info on the Disneyland website? I keep trying to find it, but with no luck..

Update* Just found it, and yes the DL website does show operating hours for Soarin' beginning January 23rd

Do they always take the ride down on the start date announced or is it sometimes delayed? I'm hoping it could be delayed a day or two!

When we were at Soarin in November the CM we spoke to said the refurbishment was adding another theater as well as changing it to a digital format and it is now going to be Soarin around the world...not just over California.

As of this morning, Soarin is on the list of reburbishments again. It is open Jan 23rd and 24th, but closes again on the 25th. Sadly, we are starting to second guess our trip as there are a lot of closures and high crowd levels ( level 8 on the 30th and 31st).

Please let me know where you find the official refurbishment list. I haven't been able to locate it on Disneyland's website.

If you look at the Disneyland calendar on the Disneyland website, the refurbishments are listed. They post them 6 weeks in advance so the schedule is available up until Jan 25th at this point.

The map on the DL Website says Soarin will be closed Jan 4-22. I think that is the most reliable source (although, sadly not that reliable:sad2:).

Oh no...now soarin' is back on the refurb list on Jan. 25:guilty:
