I know it's purely speculation, but what do you think the odds are on the Soarin' refurb being done "on time"? We were hoping to go in early May, but if we think the refurb could actually be done mid-May, we might push the trip back.

Thoughts?

I think Disney will pull at all stops for all refurbs including Soarin to be complete by the May 15 opening of the Diamond Anniversary of DL.

Personally I went last year when it was supposed to be down instead of closing the whole thing they did one side at a time. I'm going in feb and hoping they do the same thing;)

I agree with HydroGuy that Disney will probably do everything they possibly can to have Soarin' re-open in time for the start of the 60th celebration. That being said, until the refurbishment gets underway, there really won't be any rumors/information about whether it's going as planned, ahead of schedule, or behind schedule. If seeing Soarin' is priority, I would aim to go to DLR as late into May as you possibly can to give yourself as much of a cushion as possible.

Is the refurbishment going to include a new movie?

I'd put the odds at 76% that the refurb is done on time. You can take that to the bank.

Old movie but upgraded digitally. Then a new movie on its way. With two theaters there the thought is that one will show the new movie and the other the traditional movie.

Our tour guide during the Holiday Tour mentioned it will be a new movie entirely. Soarin' Over the World.

Just throwing this out there but any chance the new movie will have a tie-in with the "Planes" movies?

That would be awesome! The rumor chat boards had said old movie with the new one ready to roll when Shanghai finally opens.

Given that this rehab is supposed to also include the exterior facades, I would put odds at it being completed on time at 50%. I would put odds of it being open more than a day or two early at 0%. I would also say that they will not be running one theatre while keeping the other closed.

Been planning a trip this March for over a year, should have considered the fact that attractions get refurbs before the big anniversaries, duh! Still sad that so many things will be down, especially Soarin':( I know my Mom would have enjoyed that one. DD is miffed about the Matterhorn , but that one's too bumpy for me anyway :rolleyes1

We try to give everyone a heads up on things like this and have been talking about it regularly since last May. I wonder how you missed it?

Best of luck!
