You go up pretty darn high, even in the third row, but you really can barely tell, especially since what you are watching is so incredible. I've ridden Soarin in California, in all 3 rows, and the only downside to being in rows 2 and 3 is that if you are easily distracted, you may notice the row in front of you is dangling their feet about 3 feet over your head - but it's really not bad. The cars you ride in are built so that, unless you really make an effort, you don't see below you, anyway. And the rise is so smooth, you can barely tell you're moving.
Actually, come to think of it, if you are afraid of heights, you may want to request the first row. Reason? There is NOTHING in front of you to distract you from the show, and you won't even notice that you're up high. Rows 2 and 3, as I said, may have the distraction of dangling feet in front of your line of sight, which will remind you that you're in midair

I love this ride, and can hardly wait to take my parents on it when we go in November. My mom is in a wheelchair, but can transfer to the seat, and she will just love this.
