I am planning a trip for my 37th birthday, the day after Thanksgiving. Due to the crowds that day, I am planning on getting the Birthday Fastpass for myself and traveling party (DH, DS6, both sets of grandparents) to use.

At that time, I will be 28 weeks pregnant. I'm debating between spending the day at DHS or Epcot. At DHS, I would be able to use the fastpass to ride TSM several times. At Epcot, I would use it for Soarin'. I've been on both Soarin' and TSM multiple times, and think they should be okay while pregnant. However, it's been a little while since I did them, and I wasn't pregnant. I don't remember them being rides that will shake you around, and am thinking they will be okay for me.

I'm hoping to hear from someone who has done these rides while pregnant or who has recently returned and has a good memory about whether they would cause excessive shaking, etc.

What do you think???

Thanks!

you can't ride any rollercoaster type ride while pg. You will see warnings at the begining of each ride and I would never take any chances like that while pg.

I've never been on TSM, but I can't imagine why Soarin would be a problem at all - it's like watching a movie. :confused3

you do shake at some point and isn't there some kind of bar or restraint? For TSM you turn pretty quick don't you? Maybe I am thinking of something else but if it is like Buzz they have a warning for pg women.

I personally would NOT ride TSM while 28 weeks pregnant. We went on it last year and I rode with my then 21 month old son. If I would have known it was going to shake and jar us as much as it did, I wouldnt have put my son on it. Dont ride it pregnant.....

I can't imagine why TSM or Soarin' would be off limits for pregnant women. They don't shake or jar enough to cause any discomfort. The sensation of activity on TSM is because the car spins. It's not dangerous to spin while pregnant.

Soarin' is gentle all the way through. It's the illusion of being in flight and the way the eye fools you because of the camera work - the thing you are sitting in is just moving slightly.

If you can fit behind the restraint bar you should be fine.

I did both at 32 weeks and had a blast!!! Both rides can cause you to get sick if you are prone to motion sickness (which I am, but didn't have any problems with either) but they don't have warnings for pregnant women. Soarin' is a very gentle ride and there's no reason not to ride it IMO. TSM can/will spin you around pretty fast, but I didn't think it was jarring. We rode it several times and the only time I had a problem was when I put the lap bar a little too tight and it was more of a comfort thing. Just make sure you have a decent amount of space between the belly and the bar and you should be ok. DD is 7 1/2 months old and ahead of the game on most things so it didn't affect her at all.
Congrats on the baby!!

I'm actually going to Disney this December when I will be 21 weeks pregnant, I was there pregnant before also and rode Soarin, which I didn't think was a big deal, TSM wasn't there yet, but I rode it last year, and plan to ride it this year when I'll be pregnant, I don't see a problem with it, I've rode Buzz Lightyear while pregnant, and also the Indy cars which they advise you not to, but unless someome rear ends you really hard, I don't know why they are a problem, I made sure my husband was in the car behind me so that didn't happen. I also did the kilimanjaro safari ride at AK. I'd just stay away from Space Mountain, Aerosmith and the "roller coaster" rides. I'm debating the tea cups, my son who will be 2 1/2 when we go loved them last year at 18 months, but I don't know if they are too fast, have any of you ever ridden those when pregnant?

I will be 28 weeks during Thanksgiving, and there too, if the doctor lets me!

:goodvibes

If you decide you aren't going to do the rides, give me a call and we can have a pregnant lady convention on the bench! LOL

Good luck to you and happy early birthday!

i was 25 weeks pg in march when we went and we did both! soarin is no problem unless you have any motion sickness. tsm on the other hand...the only word of caution is to not pull the gun too close to you b/c it will also pull the bar in. my dh thought he was being helpful by pulling the gun in and i could have killed him. it was fine but i didnt like the bar against my belly. have fun!

was 30 weeks pregnant -- did TSM -- it moves fast but it's smooth -- no problems. didn't ride soarin' since we didn't want to child swap to ride it. but i would suspect soarin' wouldn't be a problem either.

Congrats!
(mine is due next week and DS3 can't wait for his brother to turn 2 so we can go back!)

Thanks for the responses!

Ciciwoowoo - it's nice to hear someone else planning a Thanksgiving vacation at 28 wks too! I know what you mean about the doc- I'll have an appt right before we go, and if she says no, I will seriously cry!!!

Sounds like Soarin' should be no prob, and as long as I'm not having complications and am feeling okay, TSM should be okay too.

Thanks again, and if anyone else has more advise, I'd love to hear it!

I would ride both. Soarin' is nothing at all to be worried about IMO. TSM- when it first opened we went on it. It was so jerky and slammed you all around. We went on it last trip and they seem to have fixed that and it is a smooth ride. No more whipping you around at breakneck speed to get to the next game. Have fun!

Back in the day when I was young and stupid I went to King's Island in Ohio and rode every roller coaster they had (and they have some BIG ONES! :scared1:) I was about 16 weeks pregnant at the time.

I wouldn't recommend doing what I did, but TSM and Soarin should both be perfectly safe! :thumbsup2

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering DD18 turned out perfectly fine and is starting her classes at the University of Texas today!! :goodvibes

I was a play it safe pregnant person in WDW (I would not ride the AK Safari) but I did ride Soarin' pregnant (I was around 20 weeks). It is sooo gentle. TSM was not out yet that trip, so I'm not sure about that one. It does really whip you around, but I don't remember bumpiness. IMO the bumpiness is the worst, whipping around doesn't seem like it would do anything to your lower abdomen, maybe just your neck. lol (It obviously isn't that bad though.) :)

Have a great trip!

Soarin' was my salvation when I was pregnant! My DH would hit up the single riders line at TT while I fast passed Soarin'. It was quite enjoyable; you're sitting, you're not on your feet...the walk back was a little long though. I agree with PPs about TSM though, I wouldn't risk it pregnant...I also skipped the safari while pregnant.

I personally wouldn't ride TSM while pregnant, but I don't see why you won't be able to go on Soaring. I wouldn't take a chance with TSM.

I went at 27-28 weeks last september. I was high risk pregnancy and tried to be extra careful. Rode TSM with no problem, only jerky part I remember was sudden stop when ride came to an end. I think both would be fine.

Soarin' doesn't have any warnings that would affect pregnancy - just motion sickness and fear of heights.
Toy Story Mania does not have a warning either. It does make a fast spin and short trip each time you change to a new game station. it can be a little jarring, but they have no warning on it.

You can look at the park maps for the attractions with warnings - they are marked with a red triangle on the map and also on a sign at the entrance to the queue.
For Epcot here are the attractions with warnings:
  • Mission Space the sign outside the attraction says that pregnant women are advised not the ride both the more tame (green side) and the more wild (orange side)
  • Test Track
For Magic Kingdom:
  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Tomorrowland Indy Speedway (probably for being hit into by other drivers and also because of the gas fumes from the car's smelly gas engines)
  • Space Mountain
  • Goofy's Barnstormer (this doesn't have a triangle warning sign on the map, but does say that pregnant women should not ride)
For Disney Studio
  • Star Tours
  • Rock N Roller Coaster
  • Tower of Terror
For Animal Kingdom:
  • Kilimanjaro Safari
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest
  • Primeval Whirl
  • Dinosaur

The Safari and Kali River Rapids are listed because you can get unexpected hard bumps and drops during the course of the ride. Many people suggest that the Safari is less bumpy closer to the front, but it is still bumpy. We sit in the front seat because youngest DD needs to stay in her wheelchair; we still get bounced around a lot. It all depends on which ruts your ride car hits. I have also ridden it without DD, and have found the front seat is about as bumpy as the farther back seats (unless you are talking about the back 1/4 of the tram).

G forces are the reason for not riding Splash Mountain. The big drop takes you down at a very extreme angle at a high rate of speed (I think you get to 40 mph). At the bottom, your ride car stops abruptly. That sort of combination of fast speed drop at an extreme angle and then abrupt stop can theoretically cause placental abruption - where the placenta actually peels away from the wall of the uterus. That's the main reason for warnings at Splash Mountain.
For rides like Dinosaur, Star Tours, Test Track, Big Thunder Mountain you are not moving that fast, but experience sudden changes of direction that jerk you around a lot.
